Not new but might as well drop this here.

When selling a Mech (did it once so far) I always strip out every Weapon, Equipment and even the Engine, never know what will be useful on a future purchase and it will save you C-Bills on upgrading those new Mechs you buy since you have parts in stock.
Don't remember if I strip off the Armor though, think I did.

Question: If working on Mastering 3 Mechs and 1 is finished, can it be sold off and the other 2 still Mastered since you finished 1 even though you now only posess 2.

Yes, you can master the other two mechs after selling the one mastered mech.

Also, when you sell a mech, there is an option to sell the equipment in the mech. Just don't use that option when you sell, and all the equipment will be placed in your inventory. (Not sure if that includes Armor though.)

When in doubt, just strip everything.

There was a bug whereby you could master a 'Mech without having elite on 3 chassis. May or may not have been fixed but....

An Awesome 8T stripped of everything is worth only under 2 mil. :D

Unless you really need the slot or plan never to use the mech again (even when meta changes...) I'd never sell a chassis.

I also recommend stripping all the armor.

Not a bug IIRC, you will unlock master for a mech after eliting that mech so long as you have elited at least 3 mechs in that weight class.

I've written a comprehensive post about how the experience and skill system works that should clear up any questions you have.

As for the armor, I've checked and stripping all the armor off a mech doesn't affect the equipment or mech price at all. I strip the armor from all my mechs, and now I never have to pay for armor upgrades (not that they cost that much to begin with).

there's no cost currently for upgrading or downgrading armor tonnage, only for switching between ferro and standard.

I do need to manage my slots, cannot afford to just buy 3 Bays every time I finish one chassis plus I am getting rid of variants I did not do well in.

Example: Hunchback 4H, 4SP, 4P
4H is my best, despite popularity I don't do better in the 4SP so it will get sold when Mastered and the 4P was the worst (it is gone now).

Example: Awesome 8R, 8T, 8V
8R is good running the Brawler build, 8V took me a while to find a decent build for it might keep it, 8T couldn't find something that I liked so it went too.

Just a matter of how much Armor one wants to stockpile since like Ammo it cannot be sold on its own.

Time to start thinking of next chassis purchase once I Master what I got.
