I've been trying to understand which colors can be bought that will apply to all my mechs, not just one mech or one type of mech.

Any info/help would be appreciated.

When I go to camo spec, color mode, is it anything in teh color filter that I buy that will apply to all mechs? Or only certain ones?

Colours are unlocked for all 'Mechs. Basics are purchased with cBills, the rest with MC.

Camo's can be unlocked on a per-Mech basis or permanantly for all 'Mechs for MC.

Be careful here, this can cost a LOT of real money....

Here's how it works... and this is gonna be one of the first things I throw up on my upcoming main thread of frequently asked questions.

Colors.
  • Any color you buy is unlocked for all mechs.
  • You only have to buy a color once in your life.
  • Colors come in several options.
  • "Basic" colors might be limited (more are slated to come when Community Warfare is released) but they are "free" in the sense that you don't have to pull out your wallet. A few million cbills and they're permanently unlocked.
  • "Standard" colors are 500 . Sale price is 250. These are colors of a good range.
  • Camo colors are considered "standard" and cost 500 (250 sale).
  • "Premium" colors are the brightest, shiniest of the colors or possess special traits (for example Obsidian Black used to shine with a bluish specular instead of white). These colors are crisp, like those on leaders and mechs piloted by noblemen. As such they're 1,000 .
  • Any category listing a color ("Blues" for example) will have Standard, Camo, and Premium colors listed within. Make sure to check the price of what you select.
As a test try this: Go into the camo lab. Click on the second icon on the right (colors) where you can see the paints themselves. Here you can test this the permanent unlock by buying one of the Basic colors for . Blue, for example. You can then freely apply this blue to every mech you have, and remove it whenever by swapping it with another color.

Camo patterns work differently.
  • You can get them in the 75 (1 dollar or less) "single use" which means so long as you don't change it you'll have it forever on that one mech. Once you change it (the pattern), it's gone. You can change the colors as often as you want.
  • The more expensive 750 "unlock" version is 3 to 4 dollars (1 to 2 when on sale) depending on how cheap you were when you got the MC (larger the package, the cheaper overall it is due to the dollar per MC ratio). This allows you to unlock and change the camo to every variant of that chassis. Note that chassis is defined as Hunchback, Centurion, Awesome, Atlas, etc. and includes all variants. Variant is defined as "9-D, 9-A, 9-AL, 7-DDC, 733C, 8V," etc.
  • To clarify if you buy the "unlock" version for the hunchback, you have it for all hunchbacks for the rest of your life, to change to and from all you want. If you want it for the Centurion, you need to unlock it again or get the single use version if you like.
  • Premium patterns are fancy, with special effects or artistic patterns and writing. They are, as such, more expensive.
    • Be warned: When you select a Premium camo without paints of your own already on your mech, it will try to suggest the camo's premium colors which then quadruple the bill from 1025 MC to nearly 5,000 MC. You can and should change those colors to more affordable ones before purchasing.
You can check out paints and camos all you like. Just remember not to click "Save" until you are ready to buy them. If you're not interested at this time, click Cancel.

If you plan to get a lot of camos or paints then the wisest course of action is to wait for sales. They happen at least once every two weeks (or every weekend depending on the month it seems). Snag them when you see what you want on sale.

Myself I own 32 paints and it would take too long to count the camos I have unlocked. However in terms of the camos and paints I haven't spent more than 40 dollars in total on them over the course of half a year. Most of the money I do spend goes into the hero mechs and the mechbays to house my now 61 battlemechs.

Spoiler

Edit: Added in screenshots to showcase paint.
Yes, I know I did a lot of the flamer paint rig. Now if you see those orange colors you know you'll get flamers in your face.

Camo patterns work differently.
  • You can get them in the 75 (0.42 cents) "single use" which means so long as you don't change it you'll have it forever on that one mech. Once you change it (the pattern), it's gone. You can change the colors as often as you want.

Patterns actually cost $ 3-4 and custom patterns cost $ 5-7.

Depends on how much you spend to get MC.

For example if you get 6500 MC at a time...
$29.95 : 6500 = $3.46 : 750

I buy mine at this interval.
$99.95 : 25000 = $3.00 : 750

As such when I buy them at sales, which then result in them costing me...
$99.95 : 25000 = $1.50 : 375

As I explained, how much it costs you depends on how much you get at a time. The more you spend at once to get MC, the cheaper it becomes when you buy the actual stuff with your MC.

Edit: If you're wondering if you bought 6500 MC and then were to get a camo on sale, it'd cost this much.
$29.95 : 6500 = $1.73 : 375

So in general the unlock is $ 3-4 not $ 1-2 unless on sale.
