I'm going to steal this from Gears of War, but it would be a lot of fun to split the usual 8v8 into 8 teams of 2 mechs. Place the spawns evenly spaced around the edge of the map and let the fighting commence. It'll be a free-for-all, but you have one guy on your side.

I know this will be tricky to implement fairly on current maps with regards to the spawn location, so perhaps 4 teams of 4 would work better. This would really reward groups who have good teamwork skills, and it wouldn't require any new game mechanics that I'm aware of other than a new design for the scoreboard at the end of the match.

The team that hides longest wins when they engage the shot up survivors. :)

Yeah, teams of lights would eat that one alive. Stay disengaged until all the other teams are dead/damaged and then swoop in and clean up. Interesting idea, though.

You might be able to make it so the Winners, are the Mechs with the Highest Damage output regardless of who the survivors are.

The Problem with this idea is that it promotes Assault mechs again.
...even if you put Tonnage or BattleValue+Money balances in. The people who play it will be the people in 4man Teamspeaks.

Your Helpfulness is appreciated, But I foresee a lot of balancing problems more so than the usual for this mode.

Might be fun in theory, but it would be left up mostly to chance. How much you'd encounter other teams would mean everything, and battles would be riotous affairs.

So, sounds good for Solaris. However, not before then. There are a lot of better team based modes that should come first (attack/defense, objectives, etc.).

This adds balance to lighter mechs. Big mechs can do more killing but can't run if they get caught between two groups. I think this mode would be amazing.

And yes you could "inherit" the GoW scoring system where a kill is worth one point and victory is only worth one point per survivor.

One option would be with Weight classes.

Since this is basically grouped teams, to join this mode you have to be in a group (of 4) and you need a mech from each weight group in your team.

Only legal groups could then select this mode/match making element.

Weight Class Falls Apart when you compare.

Awesome to an Atlas

Raven to a Locust

Hunchback to a Blackjack

Clan Mech to a Non-Clan Mech of Equal weight

3150 Mech Compared to a 3050 Mech

Hellspawn to a Cicada

Nothing against you but.. Tonnage balance will work until Clan Mechs are introduced, and even then it won't work well. The Newer Mechs are always going to be better. There has to be another solution besides weight class and tonnage.
