Remember that one time you wanted to run something stupid? That time you didn't want to do your best? The time when your enthusiasm for carrying PUGs was at an all-time low? Remember when you ran your Spider 5K? The one with machine guns and a flamer? Tonight was that night for me.

"I can be of use," I said rather optimistically. "I can distract the enemy, harass LRM boats, and hit criticals on exposed targets." Unfortunately, the matchmaker can be a cruel, heartless *****.

Though tonight isn't going well, I must say I've been pretty lucky for most of the weekend. Lots of 8-5 and 8-6 matches. How're things for everyone else?

Edit: I continued playing instead of giving up, and things dramatically improved. The Spider-5K is perhaps my new favorite 'mech to pilot. I remember liking it, but now that machine guns have been buffed, it's absolutely ******* hilarious. Revisiting a post I made a few months back, this remains 100% true:

You'd think [they'd ignore me], but often times three or four of them end up chasing me around angrily while the rest of my team chews theirs to shreds. I've only been in one or two rounds where I couldn't get at least a couple of idiots to aggro. My research has determined that a Spider-mounted flamer causes over 40% of mechwarriors to erupt in an insatiable bloodlust.

I'm totally going to be doing a guide on how to run the 5K for maximum (in)effectiveness.

Also, Brian Buckton, I thoroughly appreciated the gritty Spider duel. Next time, let's find a quiet, romantic corner of the map to dance =D

Even better. Fast mech with nothing but tags.

Its objective:
Tag the enemy to death.

This game of tag seems intriguing; how do I get the other people to chase me after it tag them? They only seem to shoot at me instead.

I wonder if they're playing a different game than me...

Nice, I'm glad you're having fun.

I went 27-1 tonight in a mix of pugs and 8mans on my stream. Several 4+kill games. All while continuing testing on what is by far my favorite Jenner-F build. I've played probably 7-8 different Jenner-F builds with medium lasers, and this one is very different and fits me best. It has been a good weekend so far!

Yeah, I ran a 4xMG Cicada earlier this week, just to see if MGs were of any use yet.

(Nup, lots of ratatat, not much damage and no kills.)

I ran a PPC Stalker, but only aimed for the legs. Does that count for something stupid?

I've spent the past week pugging and doing just that Bill :) . Just plain ole' having fun.

First, I decided to run each Jager variant without XLs for a while (and using every hardpoint). This pretty much garuntees lulz builds. I did suprisingly well with -DD 4xMG, 2xAC/2, 2xML, AMS, Endo.....and I actually used Ferro for once! I couldn't believe the fun! I was regularly doing 500+ with the beast. Of course...having basically no alpha whatsoever meant in some matches doing abysamly poor....but fun nonetheless. Phracts with the same theory did not go well :)

I re-did my Atlas-R with 4xLL, 2xSSRM2, AMS, Endo, std. 360, and 20 DHS and practiced delays between each arm. Probablly had my best (most fun) match in months with it too. Underpowered for an Atlas imho, but was a blast to play.

Mad props to the Stalker in river city that I played cat and mouse with for 7 minutes (last 2 standing). He was running a pretty nice mixed LRM/ERPPC +bunch 'o other stuff build. Obviously skilled, and he had upper base defense. I ended up having to do a complete end-a-round after the brawl in upper to even approach him. He played it very smart, and if I wouldn't have killed him...his next shot woulda got me for sure...it was that close. I don't think I've ever gone 7 minutes 1v1 due soley to smart play and not chasing down some fast mover.

Was fun to get back to my pugging roots :)

One of the best matches i had was me in my centurion AL with 2xppc and 2xml (i think) i was fighting this hunchback? (again i think it was ages ago) we where both nearly cored, my ppc was doing no damage because of the 100m rage we where at, so i had to let him shoot me a little whilst i ran to range, he blew my leg off then i turned around and shot him in the face. my god that was a fun 1 on 1

ive had plenty like that with my spider, i remember 1 time in my spider 5d i was the last one standing with most of my armor left, well the last enemy on their team was a bloody ppc stalker, just my luck eh, thinking back on it i should of ran and caped, but **** that capping noise i am no scout! so with my 1xll and 2xml i charge from behind making sure to predict his movements, all the while my team mates where calling me names for attacking it, he taged me once with a ppc and blew my left arm off, no matter i dont have anything in that :) so i had almost cored him when he alphaed my leg,, you know that moment of dread that flushes over you when you know nobody has ever been as ****** as you? yeah that was me, however he shut down! so with 1 alpha i managed to finish him!

we sound like old men telling war stories

Was running my Raven 2X named Fodder V2 (Fodder was a 4X) I had one good match where I defied the odds, tagging and using my ER PPC and Machine Guns decently.

But god do the Raven variants suck.

I'm trying to level up quickdraws in anticipation of some sort of SRM buff and hopefully a tad better laser balancing for heat vs PPCs. It's been a painful and grim experience. I just can't bring myself to not hate playing PPCs. I try - I've got a 733 with a guass and 3ppcs and 3 streaks. I can do it - it's just not fun. It's the opposite of enjoyable for me. Everyone is so freaking timid now. You can absolutely tell your team is doomed when everyone is shuffling to be in the back, cowering and hiding and refusing to move - the best possible way to get killed by snipers who, by the way, ARE moving and will get around the rock you're hiding behind and shoot you while you just kick back and hope they.... what, go away?

It's embarrassing.

At least I take my sub-optimal mech out and do stuff with it.

Unfortunately happens. I've got a few pictures, but this is the most ridiculous one I have.
Spoiler

I don't usually do that much more than everybody else on my team. This is just the most outlandish one I have of myself in a SDR-5K. 4MG+1 SPL, not a flamer sadly. I'm not badass enough to use a flamer.

Obviously this is pretty low ELO though. Either that or the hitreg was particularly terrible that game. Any competent enemies would have gotten one clear shot on me and dropped me.

Edit: removing picture until I've edited the names out of it, I knew I forgot something.

Edit 2: Alright, fixed it.

The build I use now is considered bad, but I do really well with it. Often end up getting the most to second to most kills in a little 4sp, that's funny. When SRMs are buffed it'll be a monster.

STD 225 is my go-to engine for Jagers these days. You can fit a dual-gauss setup, or gauss+2 PPCs on the firebrand. Filling all the hardpopints though... yea, that's silly :P

Looks like the poor f*ckers brought a plastic fork to a gun fight. Not sure if Assaultwarrior or AtlaiWarrior.
These type of drops are ridiculous. 6 assaults to their 4. I was on the winning team, But I sure as hell feel like I was on the losing team. Just terrible. And it's only 8v8 so far, let's not even think of 12v12. Nothing about this screams fun.
