actually a bit of math based on 8 rounds/sec, you can fire 6 machine guns continuously for just over 2 minutes with 3 tons of ammo. 2 full minutes of brawling action is likely to be longer than your mech can survive most of the time
Also swap SHS for DHS, you can enough spare crit slots to fit the DHS in. Ammo in the legs (3 MG + 1 AMS) and beagle in CT. CASE does nothing if you have a XL engine, so that can be dropped regardless. It only stops damage transferring to CT if side torso is destroyed, but that's already game over.

A few tips:
1. Avoid XL engine in Jagers if possible - most players aim for their large side torsos due to its large hitbox and weaker armor.
2. Ditch the Beagle Probe. They are most useful if you pack LRMs, otherwise the 1.5 tons are better used elsewhere.
3. Just 2 tons (4000) of MG ammo is enough, Jagers don't last long in brawls at MG's range.
4. Avoid brawls, unless you are supporting friendly Assault mechs like Atlas or Stalker in a push.
5. Jager's arms are very very rarely targeted, so you can skimp on armor there. Besides, the worst if your arm is destroyed is you lose 3 MGs.
6. Split ammo as much as you can into the least targeted areas. Head, Arms, and Legs are better places than CT/side torsos.

A minor optimization.
Though, to be fair, you'll probably lose your ERPPCs quickly after your armor drops (which is why my JM6-S uses 4 small lasers rather than 2 medium lasers) but and having the DHS in your torso will help to buffer it from crits. To that regard I would suggest you put all of your DHS in your side torsos rather than just a few.

This is the build I've been using for a while. Like others have said, try to avoid using XL engines in Jagers as the side torsos seem to get blown out relatively easy. The ER-PPCs strike a small area and strip armor much better than lasers which is what you're trying to do so the MG's can crit the internals. All in all this is a fun build and it got even better with the recent patch.
Also, if you want AMS, you can shave .25 tons of each leg to add AMS and switch a ton of MG ammo for AMS ammo.

Ah didn't realise he got FF armor instead of Endo-steel. I'll go with Raso's build, STD engine 300 is a good investment as it is very versatile, you can reuse it in most Heavy/Assault builds.
One thing to note about ERPPC on a Jager-DD is that they are fired from its side torsos, so you won't be able to aim up/down as much, and it's not feasible to peek and shoot over a hill (too much of your mech is exposed if you try to do so).

An excellent point to bring up (and a reason why the Firebrand makes me moist). That's one reason I suggested large pulse lasers in an above build. You have superior close range damage, though you are also very broad and your side torsos are very large so brawling would be quite risky. But a man does not strap 6 machine guns onto a heavy class mech to be competitive, he does it because he can!

DONT WASTE THE MONEY ON AN XL315. You can run a std 300 with no losses in any way except like 20 lower armor which is useless. - http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8d5e28ae4e476b1 - Also case is worthless with an xl because it contains the explosion to one torso and will still destroy an xl engine.

Good for forcing you to learn to shoot weak points because you have very limited ammo, and the reward is great when you do do it. Last time, even when I use pew pew (unlimited ammo), I just jizzed all over the place. After playing the cheese build to level my jagers (no DHS, no endo for first 2 jager as I didn't want to waste c-bills... so no backup lasers for them), I am now much more conscientious in looking for weakened points on enemies.

You can dual dual AC40s on any Jager mech. Everyone knows about the cheese, there's really no reason to bring it up. I think unless you have some crazy and innovative AC40 build there's really no reason to suggest it.
Besides, it works way better on the JM6-S since the mech costs much less and you can use 4 lasers if you have to tonnage. This topic is about the DDs.

But if you want the shotgun and machine guns something ridiculous like this maybe?

*Note I have NOT played this build, it is totally theoretical. Though I may try it out tonight
