Everyone has to start somewhere... 3D modelling skills are mostly about passion.

If you love doing it and find some time to do it, you'll simply get better and better. No other way around it.

I have blender sitting on my desktop, it's been there for months.
I used it for a school project spent 40 hours on in that one week, now I abuse it meaning I don't use it.
I'm complete crap at it, so I went back to having fun with LDD4.

I started doing 3D art in 1998. Between then and now I've upgraded my PC several times, tried a multitude of programs, and kept trying to pick up new techniques. And I'm STILL learning!

It's no coincidence that my skill level jumps every time I have a hardware and software upgrade. I'm usually held back by the technology itself. Were I to work in a realworld medium (like doing scratch built models), who knows what sort of creations I could do.

I started with Lego when I was 6. My collection of Lego playsets grew until I was 20. After I started doing 3D is when I stopped using those little plastic pieces and gave my toys away to the neighbor kids.

Most people seem to feel comfortable with one program or another. I too have a Blender installer waiting to be used. I tried it once and hadn't bothered to go back to it. Perhaps one day when I upgrade my PC again will I go back and start fresh.

The original TRO art for that 'mech makes it look like a newly hatched chick that's about to fall over backwards. I'd probably have to do a LOT to it to satisfy my particular style. For now, I'm going to focus on the Nova and Viper. Then maybe move onto the Ice Ferret (Fenris) and it's lighter counterpart the Mist Lynx (Koshi).

I'll post again later today since right now I'm trying to figure out the knee joint. I have a mini that i painted when I was in High School and the physical design doesn't look like the knee has any range of motion. Plus the official art doesn't provide a good angle where I can see the shapes that make up the knee joint itself.

I liked the Black Lanner design from MW4 Mercs, also the Warthog,my all time favorite. The Warthog looks like a big bad Bodybuilder with Warhawk weapon arms

Here's the update. No progress shots on the legs themselves. I just sorta kept going until I got to this point.

Nova, tied with the Summoner as my favorite Omni. I wonder how, if at all, the incorporate the torso twist into MW:O?

guessing that to be a Mekteck Kitbash? I always get confused as to REAL MW4 and their reboot of it. Either way, interesting mix of a Longbow torso with the Omni legs and arms.

Yes mek tek mech, there are some nice designs in MW 4 mercenaries like the grim reaper and some others.THe Marauder in Mercenaries looks awesome, cause the legs are bit shorter and the arms not so deep under torso.but the sunder is ugly as hell :D Ya,the mektek longbow has nearly the same center torso. Dont know why but really like this Warthog design.
Back to topic, courios how the finished Nova looks like, especially the weapn pods but im sure its goin to be amazing. Hanas threads always safe my day  .

actuall;y it is the same torso, just "squashed" a little. Then they added Daishi legs. Still, final result looks ok, maybe the Capellans can take a lesson in kitbashing mechs, since the original Cataphracts look like poo on legs.....

There is a fairly simple way to do it.

Plant your feet. Rock your left hip back and your right hip forward. The torso will turn to the left. To demonstrate, grab a pen by both ends and turn it just by moving the ends.

Here's some more progress shots. Completed the foot and scaled the legs. Linked the parts together and now I have about half of two models! I also blocked out the the Nova's arms with some basic shapes.

The giant, killer space frog is coming along nicely. The Nova always seemed like one of the more practical 'Mech designs if one ignores the insane amount of ER Medium Lasers the Prime has. The thing has an 84 point Alpha in TT. In MWO it will probably be one of the few medium 'Mechs that make a BoomJager or PPC stalker pause when it rounds a corner.

Imagine how bad it could be if they gave it full Omnimech configuration. The way things are now with Innersphere 'mechs (that aren't SUPPOSED to have such customization abilities) we're already seeing the sort of Min/Maxing that plagued MW4.

Anyway, here's three more images. I'll finish the lower arm when I scale the model back down to a proper size.

It has lower arm actuators, she hasn't done the hand actuators.

Cant go wrong with a mech with what 14 er med lasers in its arms and jump jets. One of my favorite all time mech, next to the shadow cat of course.

BTW how much does blender cost or are you guys getting it through more unscrupulous means?

Edit: Nevermind, just found it and its free from the source. Pays to look before you ask.

Close! The Prime variant has 12 ERM Lasers. Six located in each arm. The Nova was one of my favorites when playing MW2. With the game's wonky jump mechanics I was able to fly that thing around the map, slide-slip incoming PPC bolts and LRMs, and do insane 180 turns and a host of other feats of badassery.

Right! Three more images for your perusal.

I remember enemy Novas doing that in MW2 and I was all "how did he DO that?!"

Good idea regarding its lack of a torso as well :(
