An Xl 280 to 320 is what you should base your builds, and always max leg armor (or close to). I liked the srm bomber personally and my laser build was my least favorite. Remember It sits very close to a shadow hawk/kentaro.

I run all mine with max engines. Right now the 4G is my favorite.

So far from what I have seen, a slow quickdraw is a dead one, it needs to go around 100KPH to be viable in my expierience. Unless you just want to poptart with PPCs or something.

Very true,i recommend starting the eliting process with 360 XL and moving to smaller engines in the future if needed, that 97.2 kph without speedtweak is about at the lowest limit i`d recommend a quickdraw to go.When you get the speedtweak you can downgrade to about 320-ish engine if you like more firepower or heat efficiency.
if you have smaller xl engines in storage, try lrm support role or poptarting (3 ppcs + srms for support weapons if needed) with them. But beware that 3 ppcs are oven tier hot.
280 XL with speed tweak is the absolute low i would go.

The 360 XL is a big investment c-bill wise but its worth it if you are planning to run large heavies or assaults with xl engines.

I typicially use a XL 320-330 and have had decent success. Always max leg armor. Usually have LL or PPCs in the shoulder for high firing points and to peak around corners. 4H I usually use 3xSSRM2s and the 4g 2xSRM4s seem to work well. Just always need to keep moving and never get seperated from some other heavies or assualts. You can use a std 300 if you like. Does increase survivablity but you are slower. I personally like the speed of a XL 320-330 but that is a personal preference.

these three builds are the best i found i could do good with and the quickdraw itself is big but not a bad chassis

Quickdraw 4G - your crazy jumpjets allow you to land your lrm's where otherwise you couldn't have
and to TAG enemies when the lrm's are about to close in on its target and iv managed to use this build in 12 mans too
Lrm 25 artemis total - 1260 lrm ammo - 7 jumpjets - 3 medium lasers - 78.7 kph
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0fe63df078d70c8

Quickdraw 4H - use your lrm's and jumpjets to LRM and midpulse enemies within 240 meters and still provide lrm support while waiting to close in on a brawl
xl 300 - 89.1 kph - 384 armour - 16 doubles - 3 mid pulse - 1 small pulse - 2 srm 4 - 200 srm ammo - 1 lrm 15 - 540 lrm ammo
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...66cebaa78a46c59

Quickdrawr 5K - don't know why this isn't more popular but it sure is a lovely build
XL 350 - 104.0 kph - 384 armour - 20 doubles - 6 mid pulse

Sarlic goes crazy! Pumped alot of money in my new specialisation Mech; Quickdraw 5K!
I got tired of 6-7 Atlas. I want a new mech to specialize! Go Quickdraw! I see it as challenge.

The Best™ setup for 5K

Poor mans better Jester

These are the two highly recommended builds for 5K

Usually when i dust off my trusty 5K,and drop in one of those,i get damage readings above 800 and 4-5 kills.

The best advice in general is,DO NOT OVERCOMPLICATE THINGS.

Oh and stay away from those evil 6 med pulse setups, they run hotter than squirrels buttocks in Arizona desert.

I'm going to be blunt: This is a terrible idea. Having your armor that low on a 'mech as big as the QKD is just not okay.

I know people will keep going on about how your best protection is your speed, but you have to keep in mind that as you pass the 300 engine rating mark, each increase in engine rating keeps giving you larger and larger increases in engine tonnage. By the time you pass about a 330 engine there's simply no way it's going to be worth it anymore- the increase in your speed isn't going to change how hard you are to hit enough in comparison to the loss of armor weight. You should swap that engine out for the largest one you can have while keeping maximum armor. You may even want to reduce that engine further by a bit to pack a couple of extra heat sinks into your side torsos.... though you will have to drop Ferro-Fibrous to do it.

Additionally, on a 'mech like the Quickdraw, you really need to have at least two jump jets if you're going to bother with jump jets, even if your main activity is going to be jump-sniping (for whatever insane reason). But really, on something like the QKD where the main point is that it's fast for its weight, you shouldn't be leaning on a tactic that doesn't take advantage of its speed. You -can- do it, but if what you want is a jump-sniper, you shouldn't have bought a Quickdraw with a fat expensive XL engine anyway- you should have grabbed a Cataphract 3D and saved squillions of C-bills.

Especially egregious is your terrible, terrible center torso armor. The Quickdraw isn't quite as hard on its center torso as the Dragon, but it's close- the shoulder weapon mounts are the entire size of your side torso, which means if someone blows your arm off they can shoot your center torso from the side just by going for center of mass.

And since your arms block nearly all side shots, by the way, you can't really afford to go light on the armor there either.

If you absolutely have to skip armor on a Quickdraw, the -only- place you can afford to skip it is the front side torsos, and not much of it either.

On top of all this, an AMS is not a very good investment on a tight build like this for a fast, jumping 'mech that also poptarts. If you're poptarting or hill-humping, you should be ducking behind cover and moving laterally the moment you start getting Missile Incoming warnings, so the AMS would be wasted tonnage. If you're darting into combat and back out to return from a different direction (which is the thing a Quickdraw can do that no other Heavy is quite as good at), then you should be breaking line of sight frequently anyways, so the AMS comes out wasted tonnage again. Regardless which tactic you're using, half the point of the 'mech is to not be seen most of the time, and if nobody can see you, nobody can missile you anyways.

If you absolutely have to have that sort of a weapons/equipment setup on a Quickdraw, you should be going for http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f0f9c3de2342c07 .

There are better poptarts and hill-humpers you can set up less expensively, if that's really what you want to be doing. Even a PPC-arms BJ3 would be superior to what you have here, just because it's so much smaller and so innocuous that people pay it less attention. (Also, the head gets way less exposure when you're peeking over the tops of things to shoot.)

I think i will stick with my Atlas only. Hahaha. I am really bad with this kind of playstyle! Will not sell it though. Its a fine looking mech.

I actually like going with a single JJ. One is enough to avoid getting stuck for a fatal couple of second on rough terrain, and it can be tapped for faster turns. Its been a while since I played my QDs much, but I mastered my 4H and had a great time doing so. Against conventional wisdom, my build ran an xl360, skimped on arm armor (with the idea that it was just housing a single mlas anyway) and didn't quite max leg armor. This strategy occasionally backfired, but deaths seemed to be evenly distributed between legging, torso core, and shots into lost arm mounts. On the plus side, there was tonnage available for a 50+ point alpha between 4 mlas and SRM's. Running a xl330 and being just 2 points shy of max armor is probably better, but the idea of going over 100mph in a heavy is just plain cool.

Everyone is going gaga over the Clan mechs, so here's a little IS love.

Since the SRM "Buckton Fix" was Patched yesterday, I'm anxious to break out this beast again.

Anyone else trying out SRM builds?

By trying out, I meant "since the Buckton Fix", but great!

I had quit using SRMs and when totally to SSRMs since Hit Registry was so messed up. From what I've read, it appears SRMs are back.
