you take bap and murder them too......
the module itself isn't too bad, the range it has isn't. i see why it was added (mainly to grief ac/40's and splat/steakcats) as well as the tinfoil explanation (3pv balance) which is why a tiered range by weight, even if spit into top/bottom half and a range reduction or the above mentioned frontal arc would be the way to go with it as far as preserving light combat.

In which case he has BAP and Advanced Sensor Range and the 3L has a total of 30 m of safety once it closes w/in 270 m (150 - 180 m.
Seismic is broken both ways, as it in theory gives the same advantage to all 'Mechs. But unless you are trying to avoid the fight in the lighter 'Mech, you will eventually have to round a corner towards a heavy hitter that may, or may not know you are coming and may, or may not be waiting for you in ambush to one-shot you.
As it is now, covering areas such as tunnel on Frozen, Cave on River and setting up ambushes from a superior position is damn easy. And if you don't have the seismic while the enemy does, you are screwed big time (newbies in games with veterans, that have enough GXP to get it).
Which is why you don't round a corner on a mech you don't KNOW is focused on someone else if you can help it. When you hear him shooting or launching missiles. When you're lucky and catch someone alone, that's a freebie. You can still raise hell though by attacking whoever your teammates are attacking - if he turns to shoot at you, keep his back to your teammates and let those 35-40pt alphas chew through that soft, delicious rear armor of his. If he doesn't, pop a leg or torso off depending on the build (Jags - always torso. Atlas - the side torso holding the most grief. You can chew on an Atlas' leg all freaking day long and not get anywhere. Most other mechs though? Leg.) until they turn around and deal with situation 1.
If a teammate of theirs stops shooting or moves towards you? Use the ******* you're shooting as cover. Over the last 108 drops over the last 2 days I'm responsible for provoking 2 teamkills. I've never been so proud. One was LRMs, I'd chewed an Awesomes back to red but he was doing a good job of trying to face me - but those LRMs came right into his back while after me. The other a boomjag dual AC20 hit. I'd legged a Cataphract, he was kind enough to blow the guys other leg for me.
Anyway. Seismic is great - helps me with being a good light pilot and staying safe as a light pilot. Helps me catch lone mechs and not run into groups of them. Helps me decide when and where to engage. Sometimes it helps me draw folks off. Can it be balanced a bit? Of course.
It's already way better balanced than PPCs or ECM though.
