Running a AMD 6 COre on an ASrock 990 Extreme 4, with 8 GB RAM and a 650 Power Supply
(EVGA Nvidia 560 GTX and lots of air and water cooling).

Anyhow..... was watching a film on the BluRay, and Poop.... just shut off. Now, everytime I attempt to boot, it seldom even gets to the Start screen, but usually just goes poo during the bootup.

Anyone tech savvy to enough to recommend a starting place? The Power Supply? CPU?

I did have a T-Storm and a momentary power blip today, but have a pretty massive voltage regulator, and a secondary surge protector on it, and nothing else, including the TV on the same line seem affected, but figure mentioning everything I can might help.

GAH!!!! (Rebuilding will royally SUCK, as I now live in Mexico, which kinda negates the handy dandy trips to MicroCenter or easy Newegg deliveries.)

Well since it just shut off, that likely means that either the PSU or the mobo went, and probably the PSU.

Do you have another desktop you could scrounge up a spare from? It wouldn't have to be very high power, just enough to run the machine at the minimal level required to reach the desktop.

Also, when you say it goes "poo" during startup, does it BSOD, or does it just shot back off? The former could be anything; the latter is almost certainly the PSU

sounds like PSU died... check the motherboard for poped capacitors aswell as thats an easy sign to see if the motherboards gone..

I agree with Cata and BR, sounds like either the PSU or the MB, with the PSU being the more likely of the two.

When My last Mobo went, It would boot to the windows loading screen where it proceeded to load the VRMS for my CPU and choke and die. I replaced MOBO and that was that.

Nope, no BSoD. Did not see or smell any popped capacitors (I can usually smell them easy, thanks to my mildly autistic nose), so I will give a whack at the PSU. Hope it's just that as it's a relatively cheap fix, though finding PSU above 500w in Mexico seems to be a bit of a challenge.........

I second the PSU theory.
Did you leave off the name brand of the PSU because you don't know it or it is generic?

You basically have two choices.

Swapping out the PSU is easier than swapping out the Motherboard. If it works, it's the PSU. If it doesn't work, it's the motherboard. There's a better chance it's the motherboard, that's a decent PSU. But... you won't know till you try.

Another vote for the PSU. I've seen that kind of behavior before. . . and out of a corsair AX750 no less.

Corsair is a very quality brand, but every once in awhile something borderline seems to slip through.

P.S.

And now that I think on it, it didn't smell like burnt caps either. . .
