I keep asking this in game chat and keep getting different answers.
How do you unlock the Tier 2 and Tier 3 researchs on the mechs?
Do you really have to BUY, and earn enough XP with 3 different types of the same chasis?!?
(i.e. You have to buy 3 different Hunchback chasis, earn enough XP to unlock ALL the tier 1 Researches for all of them to unlock tier 2?)
If so, then this is an awesome game crippled by a really really bad advancement system.
How Do You Advance Research!?!?!

Tier 2 (Elite) needs three different variants of the same mech with full tier 1 unlocks. Tier 3 (Master) needs 3 fully elited mech variants of the same weight class (Heavy, Assault, etc).

Yeah, it's slow. Trust me though, it's worth it. Once you elite out, all basic efficiencies are doubled.
i.e. 15% better cooling, 15% higher heat threshold, etc.

So... Tier 2 you need to unlock all the Tier 1 research on 3 different types of the same chasis...
But... Tier 3 you just need 3 mechs of the same WEIGHT CLASS, i.e. Assault, to have filled in all the Tier 2 techs?

Just in case you are wondering, you in no way have to buy the mechs with real money, you can buy them with cbills. One reason the grind is so long is if you are playing by yourself and not doing well. One way to help is if you can just damage every enemy mech you see. Shoot them just once, then if he gets killed, you still get an assist which you get a fixed cbill amount for. The longer you survive, the more damage you can do also, so don't go all rambo and die quickly. The more damage you do the more cbills you earn and the greater your team's chances of winning and earning even more. You can also get xp for spotting enemies for your lrm boats and tagging them with a tag laser, so look into those to pick up some easy xp points. Also, the game is a lot more fun if you are grouped with even just one friend. When my brother and I play, I feel like I accumulate cbills a lot faster even though the matches end up about the same either way.
