We've all had them. We've all had those "accidents" where you start match and fire only to shoot an ally. Well, when this happens don't fret unless it's a full blown alpha where you lose most of your mech to it. I mean seriously. I really just had a match where someone pissed and moaned the entire game because I shot him with 2 puny small pulse lasers (yes I was using them). So what does he do? He shoots me with whatever his Death's Knell was carrying and really messes up the legs of my Raven. No big deal. I question it, he responds then starts calling me names. Result of the scenario? A PPC boat one shot him while I played out the rest of my match quietly loling to myself whilst he was swearing left and right for costing him the match.

I've seen this one too many times to let it go: how on earth do you accidentally shoot your own teammate? I had a match yesterday where two players were arguing about it.

Is it a glitch in the game? Or do so many players suffer from uncontrolled hand movements? You should really see a doctor if your fingers just twitch like that.

I've seen people fire "near" me as I head out to scout. Sometimes they graze my legs. I don't like that.

Also bad is idiots who fire in the air as they near enemy contact while still in cover. "WE'RE OVER HERE!"

Oh definitely. It's more of the fact that when players fire at the start of the match a lot of scouts end up getting shot because they rush off. Which, in this sense, doesn't make sense as I was a scout and somehow hit a target smaller than me while turning away from the group.

I remember when I started a match and watched as a K2 fired two ac/2s into the back of some Stalker. The stalker lost it and kept cussing and saying "Where the hell are you, you little git!" and the like.

I say, "Hey buddy, calm down. It was just two ac/2s, no big deal." He rages and says, "I'll show you big deal!" and he fires two LLs into my back. I immediately lose it and say, "Dude! I didn't ******* do it! I'm a catapult C1! I don't even have ballistics!" and he retaliates by saying, "well, don't defend the *******!" and he precedes to demand who shot him for the rest of the game.
The K2 thanked me after the match, which made it all worth it in my mind.

To be fair, I alpha the ground at the start of the match to get my heat % so I don't end up screwing myself with an ill-timed alpha strike.

So far, I have not shot a teammate doing so.

You are a very small minority then.
When piloting my lights/mediums ( a Trebuchet running around SHOULD be noticeable) I get very often shot by my own mates, which sometimes makes me shoot back, other times I dont.

But really : stop effing shooting at the start of a round, because how easy is it to hang back at the end of the mob, turn away from the guys that could literally save your metallic backside and loose an alpha ?

If youse cant do above I can only pity you and all the more demand removal from the gene pool.

If I end up not shooting anyone, I see no reason to not continue doing what I do.

Why so hostile?

I often shoot some weapons (mainly my lasers) to try and get an idea of how quickly I am likely to build heat. I find I need to due to my complete combat tunnel vision, but its a single shot with 2 lasers normally, and I very rarely hit anyone, its easy to be careful of what you shoot.

But then again yesterday a HBK I couldn't see turned sharply across my path and i caught him with the lasers, it happens sometimes, just apologise and get on with the game.

Just don't be an arse, it properly ruins the game, like the Jagermech who followed me for a minute then alpha'd me fully in the back, turning the internals orange (2 x AC20 I assume), then seemed to be confused when i was pissed off?

I later died to a single shot to the back which is the most annoying thing ever.

There is a bug where those with two monitors end up being alt-tabed out of the game, but the games is still on the main screen. When you move your mouse, your mech does not move, but your mouse pointer does. To get the mouse pointer to go away and get back in game you have to click on your main game screen, which in my case fires whatever weapons i have in fire group one. And no Alt-tabbing back in does not fix it, the mouse pointer still is still there. I try not to hit allies, but sometimes it happens. Until PGI fixes the problem, hopefully with UI 2.0, this problem may persist to a certain degree. Just remember, some may be doing it on purpose, but other may not due to bugs.

Oh and no matter what screen setting I put it on, it still happens on occasion. Less with full window enabled, more so with full screen. So at the moment, I keep my set to Full-Window.

Meh. Bug or not, if a simple "oops" or "sorry" was offered over team chat I'd be inclined to shrug it off, and I suspect any reasonable friendly-fire target would do so as well.

Alt tabbing out, then 'clicking' back in will fire your weapons. I stopped clicking back in after I found that out.

Sometimes, when I played on my laptop, if my mousepad was active, my hand would brush over it and fire. Started to try to keep that off too.

Other than that, if I really need to fire my weapons for whatever reason, I turn around, go to the back fo the drop, and make sure no one's there (either that, or I screw with my friends and shoot lasers in front of them).

To be fair, we also sometimes shoot you because you said something in TeamSpeak and we decided to resort to the last refuge of the incompetent...hilarious violence.

I bumped a jenner and got alphad by a 6 medium laser jenner in the back and he took all my armor off and then some. I asked him to appologize and he used some nasty language telling me to learn to watch where I walk. A teammate legged him lol.

Can you really blame him when he's been instakilled at start by a dumb stalker carrying 6 ppcs from his own team? Multiple times? Shut up and take your beating, everyone does it once a while but very few people have enough balls to apologize and accept their fate. A lot of people cop an attitude about it even though they're the guilty party. People like you. He probably moaned because you did cop an attitude with him.

I've been on both sides of friendly fire.

I've been tabbed out of the game reading the forums and when I clicked back into the game I've hit people. I apologize and take what ever return fire they dish out. I've even told others on vent not to return fire.

Now do I return fire if I'm hit? I have to say its up to my mood. Sometimes I complain and go on. Other times I return fire with my smallest weapon and tell them to cut it out.

Recently I was in a match where an atlas when after a team member straight away. His excuse? He was drunk. Sorry but there is a line between "whoops I'm an *****" and actively hunting down a team member.

When it comes to TKers I won't kill them. I'll just pop their leg off and let the enemy do it. Or make me a zombie and force them to to me.

In cases of friendly fire, sometimes it's the fault of the shooter and sometimes it's the fault of the recipient. I have on countless occasions lined up a shot and pulled the trigger when a teammate, often a light or medium strolls across my path. I've accidentally killed someone that way as well.

Sometimes the shooter doesn't check his HUD and that really sucks. One time I went through the tunnel on frozen city to end up behind the enemy but I was overwhelmed, so I ran back over the hill to my team. An overzealous teammate kept unloading his multiple ACs on me (AC 2s or 5s thankfully) before he finally realized I wasn't shooting back

Accidentally hit the backspace (alpha strike) once while testing controls, and sent 2 ac20's into the back of an atlas.

Good news, he lived (and I profusely apologized).

Bad news, he died.

And at times with smoke and heat vision I've accidentally shot a teammate thinking I was shooting at the enemy that was actually behind a friendly...though this has been with fellow Company members so no real foul. :)
