90% of my games so far have had my team endlessly raging at me (even when I won the game for them) because I didn't suicide run into a battle. Is this going to be a common trend or am I just getting unlucky match ups?

My last game we had to ether destroy all the enemies or cap their base, I decided I was going to go cap their base rather then fight becaues I didn't care much for the map it was on. On the way there the rest of the team ran into a fight and got themselves killed (I WAS firing missles and hitting the whole time I was walking around though, apperently they don't think I did anything though) and got to their base when the last person on our team died.

About 1/4 of the way through of the capping the rest of the team noticed what I was doing and started hurling insults non stop at me "gutless *****!" "Useless dipshit!" "You did nothing!" and other such things flooded the chat. Meanwhile I won the game and got even more insults about them not wanting this useless win.

*insert jackie chan what!? image*

Is this going to happen a lot or...

I would say, "No", it's not going to happen a lot. But it will happen. Lots of varying reasons for that. There are children that play this game, both mentally and physically immature. The nature of online gaming is some folks don't think they have to behave themselves and can get away with saying and doing things that would get their face pushed in for them in real life face to face encounters. Called Internet Tough Guy Syndrome.

Posted Image

Also some folks just have no patience, or ability to see another person's play style is just as valid as their own. And some folks get a false sense of superiority over another just because they are new to playing a GAME. Maybe they need that in their life, dunno, but it's kind of sad.

I would just ignore them. Don't respond in any way when you see it. The thing about most trolls is they do it for the attention and reaction they get from their "victims".

Just have fun, try and enjoy the game, ignore the little idiots, come on these forums and ask your questions here. There are some truly knowledgeable folks here that really do want to help us "noobs". I've found most will bend over backwards to help if you only ask with reasonable courtesy.

I've only been playing for about a month now. I have a lot to learn, and still make bone head mistakes frequently. In game, I have been raged at a few times, offered advice a few times, and ignored completely most of the time. So, it varies.

Good luck, and don't let the children ruin your GAME.

Nah. It won't happen "a lot," but you can count on it to happen again.
But this isn't behavior that is unique to MWO.

People vent and act immature on the internet. It will continue, although hopefully, as you earn your way up the Elo ladder you will see less of it. Not a complete end to it mind you, but for the most part it gets better as you go.

Yeah I know it's going to happen and that it's in every competative game, but you can't exactly state that all communities of different games are equal in this way. Just wondered if this was one with a high % of those people since all of my games so far have had them.

For solo droppers, it is a common trend...even when you carry the team, even when they're all smoking scrap heaps, even if they contributed nothing but laser / AC20 / Gauss sponging, even when you have the highest damage of them all, even when you win the game.....they will complain, they will vent their frustration, they will broadcast your position, because they can't see beyond their own tiny little world of how they think the game should be played.

Its mostly kids, or grossly immature adults, who have grown up on XBox where spouting off is de riguer. It is more common during US prime time (Europeans and Aussies seem to be more mature, it seems--who would've thought?)

Ignore them, play how you want, and have fun. Certainly don't let them ruin it for you. That's what their goal is, but if you just ignore the little trolls, you'll do fine.

The best revenge is success. You may be a "freak magnet". I used to play another online game, and one particular individual, Psychoti, seemed to attract would-be trolls, freakouts, muppets, squeakers, griefers, whatever, with startling regularity. He shared his online stories with us, and man, some of them...

See it as negative encouragement.
I usually debase myself by pretending to be a 14 year old japanese school girl... after which the heckling stops and the friend request go through the roof.

Some players are just to involved with themselves to notice the world around them, so be glad that they are stuck behind the screen and not messing with you in real life.

It's not just you. There are a lot of raging idiots. Game needs a convenient and simple way to squelch people. I won a game last night for my team. Did the second-most damage. Did almost all of the capping. Basically carried the team (a bunch of heavy mechs only one of which cleared 200 damage and none of which killed an enemy), and won the game, and at the end I have to listen to some sad little jackass rage at me for not 'hiding' in my jenner. Yeah. Like I'm gonna power down on a map when I've got an entire enemy team with at least two cicadas trying to hunt me down, and not fight back and leg a few suckers while I burn rubber to make my escape clean.

I've got dozens and dozens of stories like that. This is why my wife doesn't play the game. edit: If we can't get a squelch system, then dead people shouldn't be able to talk to surviving ones.

True, dead people should not be able to talk, as it also gives them a tactical advantage by flipping between players and announcing enemy movement.

Some people dont get the "feeling-meaning" of a game and take it too personal.

At the end of the day they are earning PIXEL stats and C-bills...

I lol at them when they rage because is super funny to get to actually meet those REAL LIFE LOSERS that find their success on a digital world!

thumbs up if you lol at them too!

They do not have to be raging you know, to be considered ID-10-Ts.

score better than them to shut them up...

but if you played coward and the match was close - expect people to call you in it..

it is not a "win", it is about how much you contributed to the team... unfortunately - dipshits equate damage with contribution...

I know how it feels, OP.
Often times, I score better than my team but they're still the ones to say "I'm" useless.
Forget about the whiners, they only do so because they know they suck more and can't play without some broken mech with ppcs or whatever is unbalanced atm.

Capping is pretty heavily frowned upon by a lot of players.

Mostly because it frequently cuts matches short and if it happens early enough you'll make less money than if you'd fought and lost. People also tend to be annoyed by mechs larger than a light trying to cap because you're pulling away firepower and armor that could swing the group fight.

There are some griefers though, you have to be fair. I've watched guys do inexplicable **** based whatever they think they game should be.

I mean it would be one thing if they would share at least. Coordinate, let us know their plans, maybe we could help. But powering down, at 100% and skipping the entire match so you can attempt to solocap, only to be decimated by the 7 remaining mechs while we were asking for assistance throughout the match? Sorry but that guy was asked some hard questions by the rest of us. Like why did he even bother to get on our damn ship?

If you're being logical, if you're actually putting in work, if you're doing your job, say so, and that should be enough. If you're going off on a mission, say so, and well...good luck. Don't die.

But if you're a one man lance based on 'how you think the game should be played' you're not exactly a credit to your team. Even if you happen to carry us all. If you're ********* Captain America, say so at the beginning of the match, we'd love to watch you work. This is a team game so far, until they add the 5 player Lone Wolf matches. (And I will see you and kill you there.) So lets at least lean in that direction.

edit:

The original poster is correct though. Large herds of battle cattle can **** right off.
And any yahoo with 4 Large Lasers can get 700+ damage dancing with a couple of ***aults and not actually killing anything. So don't get too caught up on numbers. ***aults :)

Elo mmatching really curbed a lot of that for me. Usually when I'm playing in a grou I mostly just gg's all round. I'd recommend getting teamspeak and joining either one of the public servers or a merc corp.

Start doing drops with multiple people, it should reduce the percentage by a good chunk. Sadly you will still run into them in one form or another sometimes.

I run in a Commando, practically every time I win the game by being the last one alive and capping the enemy base both sides are screaming at me sometimes.

My answer is usually the same: "learn basic tactics, what did you think would happen when your force loses the base?" Have fun my friend. That's the important part. Some people have taken this too seriously, and it will show up every now and then. I am sorry that it is happening to you more frequently than it ever should. However, I recommend you start doing 4 mans. So much less stress. You can either go to a faction's Teamspeak server, or the NGNG teamspeak servers, and join up with people there.
