Yes, the differences are slight, but they are there.

I told someone in game to shoot for the green eye to get the Atlas headshot, and he said they were all red. Now I know why I thought they were green!

I'm worried about the Tbolt's "Keg over the shoulder" missile pod... that's going to be one giant right torso. I worry about it the same way clanners should worry about the Summoner Prime's missile pod and the ever popular Timber Wolf's. (The Timber wolf's pods cannot be treated the same as a catapult's since on a cat they are "arms" and the clan mech has arms and missile pods)

Will PGI introduce special hit locations so as to not gimp iconic designs ?

At one point there was a "screenshot" from "ingame" floating around that looked like a Warhammer IIC with the torso and then two missile pods up top of the paper doll... I'm hoping something like that is implemented both for the Catapults and the Tbolts and the Summoners etc. Who knows though. Just pray you are fast enough to find cover LOL

Those missile launcher pods really are quite common on several designs, really. Even the warhammer has an SRM6 pod on top of its torso in the original design. There's the Mad Cat/Timberwolf, naturally. Then there's the Thunderbolt and its surly, rebellious teenage son the Thor/Summoner. Others with a pod launcher of some type bolted to the top of the shoulder are the Daishi/Dire Wolf, the Kraken/Bane and the Axman. Now, of those the Daishi/Dire Wolf is probably the most likely to be seen on MWO, and who knows if Alex manages to incorporate the left shoulder launcher into the body itself, but it still is an issue they're going to have to think about, because the shoulder launcher is not, as I said, an uncommon feature of the original TR designs.

So the Thunderbolt should get special treatment that other Mechs like the Hunchbak did not? (I drive Hunchbacks.) The real question is does it have enough benefits to make up for the flaw.

I'm looking forward to getting the Phoenix Project offering.

It seems like a great deal.

concept art is indeed not to scale

As for the cockpit on the battlemaster. Yeah. That was a matter of making it not a massive shoot me here target as well as visually making it distinct from the original art, as it would not be legally responsible of us to make designs based directly off the unseen. As such, I did my best to try to carry over the feel of the originals but with different details and with a bias towards how our gameplay works. i.e having pelvises (locust), not having vertical lines bisecting a cockpit (thunderbolt) and not having a mech that has a cockpit that can be shot from space (battlemaster)

be that as it may, depending on feedback, i can always try to adjust and tweak things a bit for the orthos.

I would say that you got the Shadow Hawk and Thunderbolt spot on, the Locust could use the iconic underslung rounded laser and most importantly the Battlemasters most iconic and recognizable feature has always been its rather large and domeshaped cockpit.

As you proved on the Atlas you can make a big "head" on the mech without making the hit location for the cockpit overly large so please reconsider and make the look of the BM cockpit the large and domeshaped one thats so iconic to the Mech.

Two things I REALLY need to see to help me make up my mind (between ProPho or waiting for a heroic orion):

1. See how the mechs will look once they are modeled out, concept art and in game models ain't really been lining up that well of late.

2. See what the hell the Phonix mechs unique skin and colors are >.<!

(Number 1 especially concerning the Thunderbolt, if its as short and wide as it looks might not be so bad, but I have a sneaking suspicion it is just a slow dragon without the beer gut.)

Simply ? Yes ! The Hunchback's gun is IN the right torso and is HUGE.. The missile barrel on the Thunderbolt is above the chest area. I wonder what kind of advantage would warrant taking a death trap like a Timberwolf (which should have a hardwired XL engine if the side torsos are jutting several feel above the cover the mech is hiding behind ?

Supporting PGI is an incidental.. a good one but still incidental to my main purpose for gaming - my enjoyment.

Heh... "Supporting" PGI. Now that's a laugh.

Remember what happened to our founders dollars? Most of them went to *gasp* IGP and NOT Piranha. :)

Gee, probably because PGI had a debt to pay with IGP to host the servers and we were playing for free for quite some time in Closed Beta. You make it sound like it was a bad thing. IGP INVESTED in PGI, PGI paid back the money plus their developers for the work they put into the game, licensing fees, etc...and the game is still going strong.

How about realizing this sh*t isn't free?

Umm. It isn't free. That's kinda why I bought a Founder's pack? :) Beyond that, they have to earn my additional dollars with content and gameplay. The gameplay is... lacking right now to say the least.

Actually I giggled cause I was all like "Oh look, another guy who didn't go back through the thread and read everything", especially where it was specifically stated "Russ was on the NGNG podcast and stated that ALL the money from the Project Phoenix packs goes back to MechWarrior to make the game better". This is a clear and distinct an answer as one could hope for. I also believe it to be 100% true as it would be credibility suicide if it were not.

If you truly believe that, you need to listen to the latest NGNG podcast. They don't divert all their resources to coming out with things like this, it's only just a fraction of the team that works to better the game.

If you really think that PGI devotes 100% of it's resources to come out with new mechs instead of making MWO a better game, you should just go play another game because you obviously have no idea what is going on. Matter of fact, you should prolly just burn you computer down because you have no idea of how games are made, go walk your dog, take up sport, go visit a bar, get laid maybe, you need it. Hell, you can get a prosititue pretty cheap.

Yes, I mean to be mean.

I don't think you're being mean. I just think you don't have a sense of humour to appreciate the joke. It's based on an interview with Bryan where he said they'd be doubling their current personnel. The sad thing is everytime I make a joke at pgi's expense it becomes self-fulfilling. I'd be happy to put down more cash on this game. To date I've only put $75 towards MWO. That's way less than I would have spent to buy the game outright (because I really like it and it has potential), but I really need to see what that additional cash is buying me. I've got my money's worth so right now it's F2P.

Why fork out more cash on a F2P title when my enjoyment isn't increasing? 12+ months later since closed beta and still lots of remediation work and re-occurring issues makes me question that and, most importantly, excellent games are appearing on the horizon about the same time as Project Phoenix. So, why is now a good time to put more money into this game? I think you're flogging a dead horse. You're a gambler. You're hoping things will work out for the best and maybe you're right. Since you're a "Legendary" founder you should have more sense than most, but throw more money at the game if you want. Go for it. I'm happy to ride on the fruits of your generosity. Just know, I won't reciprocate until pgi turn this game into everything I hope it can be.
