How Can I Get Back To Playing This Game After Having Been Burned So Badly By It?

Or is it another kind of burn...

If the game makes you angry, don't play.
If all games make you angry, seek help
Plenty of stuff I "dislike" about MWO at the moment; high-alpha builds dominating, lack of interesting / innovative gameplay modes, lack of content, constant delays, broken promises, abandoned features...
But I'm not raging about it and generally still have fun playing.
Find a way to have fun in the current environment, find a way to voice your concerns without it raising your blood pressure, and things will seem a bit better.
If you literally cannot do that, then do not play. You are only driving yourself batty

Learn to roll with it...as for me, I vent and adapt almost every time a new patch is released. I have found that every time they change something I like it only takes me about 2 weeks or less to find something else I like. Sometimes the challenge of finding a mech and load-out that you like is part of the fun. However, if you just don't like the game, then play something you like.

If you don't like it, don't play it. I don't understand what your question or issue is.
IMO the game is awesome, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is for you. If it is not moving in the direction you want, cut your losses and move on.

And they keep going in the wrong way.
More items that hide behind a pay wall, no in-game VOIP (C3 doesn't count), may features are still lacking.
But really it's the pay model and how it affects game progression that bothers me the most.
And they're sticking with it.

Then you should cut your losses and leave. It is unlikely they are going to reverse direction for you.

And that is probably the least likely to change.
I expect you will choose to stay anyway, which is fine. But I am not sure what the point of your thread is. You want us to convince you that their pay model is not so bad? That features will get better? What exactly do you want?

I can live with Free 2 Play, but one of the main features of MechWarrior games I played in the past that I loved is the freedom.
In Skirmish modes and multiplayer, I was always free to choose between any mech and any piece of equipment, without forced progression.
This being a Free2Play game, I understand how it makes sense to make the player earn the C-Bills it takes to buy mechs and equipment.
But Premium Time, C-Bills bonuses, the TERRIBLE grinding back last summer that made me ragequit the game for over half a year, the money-only items and mechs (The one HUGE offender)...
This is just no MechWarrior for me!
MechWarrior to me is what MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries is today.
Yes, MechWarrior: Online is a different game on its own right, but did it HAVE to show the some of the WORST parts of F2P MMO games in my face?
Did the game HAVE to have items hidden behind a paywall, cosmetic or otherwise?
Did the game HAVE to include premium C-Bill and XP bonuses so that it's somewhat of a grind to play without them?
Or, in other words - did the game HAVE to have all the ****** things that simply RUIN a game from reaching greatness?
I mean, WHY?!
This is all my fault, ofcourse.
When I purchased the Legendary Founder package, I didn't know how the game was going to end up.
I asked for a refund long ago, but they denied it, saying that the game was going to improve and increase in features, so I shouldn't give up, and I will get what I paid for.
Excuse me, but I barely played this game for maybe 7-9 hours total in the last year.
I didn't particularly enjoy any part of the game outside of the matches.
I'm sorry, but just... NO. The game simply does things bad.
Bad pricing on items, bad real life money paywall, bad grinding (maybe that was fixed)...
I won't get low enough to talk about lack of clan mechs, because I fully respect that they're working on content at their own pace.
But these other things...
Oh, and I was actually bothered about Double Heat Sinks not acting as, well, DOUBLE heat sinks, but meh, game balance.

MechWarrior: Living Legends is still available for free. Go play that.
Or better yet, if you believe MW4: Mercs is the pinnacle of the MechWarrior franchise, there's nothing stopping you from playing your most favorite game ever.

MechWarrior 4 is a great bunch of 3 games of MechWarrior, sure, but I was all in for a new, modern iteration of MechWarrior.
That's why I got in the founder program to begin with - I wanted to support a revival of the franchise.
Little did I know...

What you've got to understand is that in order to ensure a healthy development cycle for the game, they need to make money so that they can keep paying their staff and rent their office space. So of course they are going to charge money for certain things. Please tell me you're not feeling some dramatic betrayal because they're not giving away Hula Girls for free.

Also, not even a single option to purchase some of the cosmetic items with in-game money? Not even lots of it?
Come on.

You can still earn all the gear you want, albeit at a slower pace, without spending a dime on the game. And what you just told me is that, yes, you feel devastated because you can't have a Hula Girl for free. Come on, man, you're being overly dramatic and thin skinned.
