The main difference is ECM and the small energy slots in the ct. If you can do magic with 2 med lasers or MPL's even after you've lost both torsos then you should choose the D. Otherwise go with the DDC and ECM. Also you can watch Koreanese's D build.

What exactly does the ECM do?

it prevents you from being locked and/or getting spotted by radar over long range.

I'm getting closer to the 10 mil C-bills mark and I'm sorta torn between the different Atlas variation. Searching both here on the forums and the Intertubes gives mixed results as to which one is preferable... halp!

Standardconfig for braindead Pilots, NPC`s and other Boons is usually an RS with 4 PPC.

The K is the weakest? Ironic since it is a good few millions more expensive than the rest!

It is the weakest in potential for burst damage. The main advantage of the Atlas K is long range. But because it cannot do burst damage like the other Atlases, it cannot brawl and therefore most people don't like it.

If it was a proper Atlas AS7-K, it'd be able to shoot those medium pulse lasers backwards.

I find mine puts out really good damage, but it doesn't have a chance in a close up fight.

The expense is because it comes with a huge XL engine, by itself the engine costs as much as a catapult k2.

ElectronicCounterMeasure jams the enemy radar, makes you untargetable (so no LRM/SSRM-LockOn). Pretty powerful item - Can be countered by TAG, another ECM, BAP or PPCs

It is actually not a valid build anymore, ECM is now forced to a hardpoint in left torso so he can't run that exact setup but three SRM6's is still possible, he would loose a double heatsink. Here's a quick remake of his design:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...4983936a4b67b65

I don't like it, he's using medium lasers and extremely high heat efficiency. The build is not using the full armor of the mech either.

This alternative build has full armor but less heat efficieny, meaning you can't push as much as he did - have to stay in cover a bit more then this guy did to cool down. Large lasers give more damage at longer ranges, not every mech is nice enough to come within 270 metres.

The D was my first Atlai.

It is a good one. 3 LL, AC20, SRM4(Artemis) + SRM6(Artemis). 28 Rounds AC20, 200 Rounds SRM, 17 DHS. Std. 300 engine. Max armor everywhere except legs, make it 33, that's enough. No Endo steel, no ferrous armor.

But the above Assault mech excels ranges inside 750 meters. Just watch your heat, and when you get close to a target, don't fire the 3 large lasers, go AC20, SRM10, repeat, rinse, repeat, 20 damage, 15 damage, 20 damage, 15 damage.. etc.. you can keep that up along time. Heat does start to add up.. cool off for 3-4 seconds....... and then a coup de grace, the 3xLL for 27 points of face melt.

Blam!

Regardless of what Atlas you buy. I recommend running at least a standard 350 with endo. The standard 350 gives you 4 hs spots in the engine which would equate to 12 slots outside the engine and endo only costs 14 slots and gives you 5 more tons to play with, not to mention the extra speed. I think its definitely worth it in any atlas.

Man, you were faster. There're no reason to buy Atlas today.
It's not fun. Not effective. It's waste of 15 tons.

Stalker is heavy-sized assault with bugged hitboxes and extremelly better weapon arrangement. The best investment today.

"endo" as in and Endo-Steel Chassis, which is made to be lighter than a regular chassis. The downside is that it's bulkier, so it takes up critical slots. (in other words, saves tonnage but less room for weapons).

Endo steel is an upgrade that requires 14 critical slots inside your mech (that you can't use to place heatsinks nor weapons) in order to get 5% of weight savings, than in an Atlas means a wholly 5 tons less with endo steel rather than without it.

Initially you can go around without endo, your first thought is to get as soon as possible the Double Heatsiks upgrade, which cost 1.5 mil cbills. Better, try to save up the money required to buy the variant you like + that 1.5 millions, so that you can apply the DHS upgrade immediately. Roughly save up 11.5 mil for an AS7-D and 12.5/12.8 for the D-DC (you'll need to buy ECM and a few DHSs with this money).

Then simply play and enjoy it, remember to allocate armor properly, try to shift some in the front heavily if you snipe or leave some more when you brawl (stock loadouts have a huge amount of armor in the rear even for brawling).

Later on you'll want to upgrade to ENDO and look to employ larger engines for added mobility, torso twist and range dictation, starting by the 325 which will allow you to stuff a third DHSs inside the engine without worrying about the critical slots taken up by the ENDO. I normally never go below a 325, the 300 std makes it moving like a brick even when mastered, 325 softens this up; I usually end up using 335s often and of course 350 (4 total DHSs can fit in this engine). And of course forget about XL engines, they are suicidal in atlases :P

Full armor is silly on an Atlas. You automatically have 2.5 tons too much, 54-60 pts of armor is more than enough on those locations. If you're losing arms/legs with over 50pts of armor on each your opponents are awful shots.

I partially agree. I don't mind shaving some off the legs down to 50-60 but on everything else I have full armor on every Atlas I run. It's the number one bullet magnet and you need all you can get. Granted, you loose torso more often then arms but skimping on arms is not something I am ready to do (1-2 pts to round off, maybe). Every so often they do take some hits when you torso twist and it's damn useful.

If you look at that guys video and the smurfy sheet I recreated, he's skimped on all torso parts, hell, the only thing he didn't tweak down was cockpit basically.

I very rarely get hit in the legs as it is. In fact, I've even considered moving most of my ammo into my legs for safekeeping.

Most Atlas builds store them in the legs and with 50-60 armor, they are fine. Not many lights have the persistence to chip away that much. ;)

You should everyone else does... also Head and CT. Make absolutely certain you put an AMS on your Atlas whatever you do. Otherwise you'll be making a post regarding how overpowered LRMs are now.

Already did, hahaha. Well, not so much the overpowerdness but the abundance of LRMs in matches.
