Posting from my phone so forgive my format.

Was running my highly modified HBK-4H with 5 medium lasers and an AC20 and roaming irritably near the cave entrance at the Epsilon side. My lance mates: a Stalker, Highlander and Jenner were busy in the early long range firefight and jockey for position on the shoreline.

We kept spotting a lone blip on seismic in the cave but were too busy on the primary front. Finally - bored with rear guard duty I called out, "Checkin cave." With typical Kuritan bravado I go it alone. I've got the most fierce slab of 50tons in the Inner Sphere for single-combat in dense or urban terrain - the admirable Hunchback.

Guess whose lurking inside...

Your long lost brother back from the dead to tell you that your father is Darth Vader?

His lasers seared my left before I could see him clearly - the outline was familiar and his hunch quite nearly as splendid as my own. To compliment him I slammed every fire button at my disposal, chassis rocking from the boom of the Autocannon 20. I didn't watch the shot land home - I only heard the impact as I shifted the gyro in motion to present my left to my opponent again. My medium lasers were wasted, cutting through more rock than battlemech in the exchange.

Then the computers rang out the target info display: HBK-4P. 9 Medium lasers. I HATE 4P's - every lance commander prior sang their praise and speed, They told me to hang up my glorious cannon cradling hunch for a smaller Swayback - or this nimble 4P. Then the damage readout came up - that cannon shot had scored him near the cockpit and blasted away any remaining armor there.

Headshot. Too bad I have the worst aim in the lance and I have zero chance of duplicating it. We did the traditional HBK shuffle - the clockwise rustle with left shoulders presented and waggling their curious mating dance to keep the opposition's weaponry from our most treasured parts.

Another exchange but nothing telling and our romp had completely reversed our initial positions. Now I was in the belly of the cave and his back faced the entry. He must've been as excited as I am - because this funny thing about HBK-4P's and an energy dependent chassis in general is that they run hot. I let half my lasers rest and slung out another cannon shot - he replied with more lasers than his machine could handle.

The 4P slumped down and lost it's majestic stance. Automatic shutdown just as we were staring wild-eyed at one another. Even I can hit a cockpit at 50 meters - go down heat! Go down! He'll be firing back up any moment!

I envy your release to sweet oblivion.

The warning chimes sounded and I let loose everything.

An Interesting story, reminds me of one of My cave battles. Maybe I'll write it up later...
