UC is an interesting solution I heard to the PPC/Gauss Alpha problem I heard.

Even as little as a quarter of a second and only applying to both PPC/Gauss. That way the fire is staggered and recycle times still apply.

I know this issue has been hacked to death but I'd just like to say I find this a more elegant solution than the weapon boating heat penalty that's been offered.

These are high energy weapons it doesn't make sense that you could fire so many at once. Alpha strikes could still apply as long as you're willing to shutdown immediately after.

I'm not sure you understood what I meant by universal cooldown. That is a timer that applies to all PPC/Gauss so you can only fire one at a time.

Just tossing it out there. Will we have UC for Jagerbombs and their twin AC/20s? For Stalkers boating 6 large lasers? What about 6xAC/2s and 3xLBX10 Cataphrats? 6xSRM6 splat cats?

WoW uses UC and players live about 3-5 seconds longer.

All those weapons have neither the range and/or damage that the Gauss and PPCs have.

Sounds like UC vouches for this solution.

Myself, I think fixing heatsinks would be better. Removing the raising threshold issue would do wonders in eliminating alpha strike potential.

He's basically saying that firing a PPC or Gauss should put all PPC or Gauss on a short global cooldown to prevent instant simultainious fire. This would turn a huge pinpoint blast into a string of smaller hits that have a chance of missing or hitting different components (provided the target is moving). Group firing PPC and Gauss will still exist but the weapon fire will be drawn out into a sequence of individual shots. Because of the global cooldown the weapons cannot be macro'd to fire any faster.

Firing a group of 6 PPCs would result in a string of six closely-spaced 10pt shots rather than a 60pt ball of pain and tabasco.
