I currently have a Galaxy GTX 660(non-Ti) considering getting a second and running SLI. but not sure if i should do that or just get a higher end card. I know price wise 660 is the better bet but i am also thinking long term and not having to upgrade for quite a while so i can upgrade monitors and other things.


currently running ivy bridge i5 and a 850w psu with 8 gb ram.

maybe if you are playing Metro Last Night or Crysis 3 which supports SLi

this game is stuck with using one card's power

either wait for better support for SLi before throwing in another GTX660 or jump into GTX770

Depends on if you can sell the card. If you can sell it just get a single higher.

If all you could do with it is give it away to family, then buy another one.

your point? if he got the budget to only get GTX660, you think he have the cash to sink in a GTX780?

yea another point you point out, ppl from ebay will take any chance for a cheap used GTX660 or if you got a spare PC thats needs a GPU just plunk it there and then go for the GTX770 which i mentioned

the GTX770 is a re-branded GTX680 so a big jump from GTX660

money is not really the issue. if i decide for higher card i just wait a few month weeks. but most likely if i go with a higher card i will either sell the 660 or start building a starter gaming system for my little bro for a xmas present

typically when budgetting for GPUs... try to buy the best single card you can afford...

think about SLI some time later when the prices of cards drop...

only exception is when you go triple monitor - where you need 2 cards from the get go...

Long term, I'd suggest a GTX 780 ... easily overclockable to match a GTX Titan. Or, if the Red camp is your thing, a 7970 would be a good bet, as most of them can be easily flashed to the GHz edition, and the game bundle can be sold to offset cost (if you like the games, of course that is a very nice FREE bonus). I successfully flashed my 7970 to GHz edition, but in my move from a 1200p to a 1440p monitor, switched over to GTX 780. Both cards should be fine for what you're looking for, if your upgrade path is on a 2-3 year trend (like most enthusiasts).

Forgot to mention ... supposedly AMD's new replacement card(s) for the 79xx series should be coming out later this year, probably in Q4 2013. So if you can wait until fall/holiday season, that too is a viable option.

Red option? You mean spending the $200 in the red light district? That's always a good choice.
