If you're talking VOIP, then no.

And it is a shameful decision to not include it.

They could still add in voip functionality after launch

I agree it would be nice, but most voip in games are so buggy at launch they would end of spending a lot of time fixing it.

Not sure VoIP would actually be good honestly. At least not without a careful implimentation.

With everyone just jabbering at eachother it would quickly meaningless noise like you hear in matches of Halo or what have you. There would need to be some way to control who is talking to who, even on the same side.

VOIP supported in-game was said not to be available at launch, but as far as the communications so it won't be a mess, I'd probably like to see lancemates communicate between eachother and lance leaders with other lance leaders.

Difference channels for each lance, and a general channel for the team, or like in Halo, a simple mute function toggle. It's been done before a long time ago. Implementation shouldn't remain a mystery after this long being a standard feature.

I can see why they wouldn't include it, since there are flexible alternatives, but recognize what exactly is being left out.

Eh, if you really want just hop into Skype or Mumble. There really isn't any reason it HAS to be included when there are other ways for people to communicate if they wish.

Keep in mind this also may be a concious decision in order to make the commander role more valuable by their ability to issue commands.

I don't always agree with House Liao <_<, but when I do, it's in regards to VOIP. I've always wanted to play a game where the VOIP was implemented like this :).

I had just assumed it would be there, as with any other modern online team based game... Very disappointing, and likely a deal breaker for me.

At this point they are not including an integrated voice comm system. I think the reason for this is because people tend to use whatever they're familiar with anyway, and integrated comms are largely ignored. So why bother including something that won't be used?

Let's face it, with the huge assortment of available VOIP options, there's very little reason to use the one that comes with the game generally. People that are playing together on a regular basis will have their own arrangements. Random players will both ignore, and be ignored by, their teammates. Typical gamer problem, everyone wants to lead, nobody wants to follow. And they can't understand why they should take orders from anyone.

THAT is a deal breaker? Seriously?

I'm sorry, I think that's pathetic. There's so many other ways to set up communication that this is a total non-issue.

It is not going to be included at launch, but it is on the "to-do" list per the Devs.

They've already stated there will be no in-game VOIP option. Many people already use Ventrillo or Teamspeak 3 so they figure people will use those options. I may or may not use those as I do intend to RP a little and that'd be easir through text as my "Character" is female, and I'm a guy.. Might be a little awkward. Sure I could make a second profile, but one may be enough.

No, whats pathetic is not having an essential feature in a team game that most of us became accustomed to 10 years ago. If its to be added at a later date thats another story.

It would be less of an issue if they indicated options for voice chat within the game.

Teamspeak, Mumble, and Vent are all great if you know about them beforehand. But what if no one tells you about them?

Even though mechwarrior online is going to have a more mature community (on average of course). In game voice comms would most like be on par with call of duty on a console.

Basically I'd rather be waterboarded then listen to that.

Then you ask and you have everyone in the forum who does know about them tell you?

Kinda like what is happening right now?
