They have those all the time. Haven't you watched any of the Heavy/Medium/Whatever vs the World events? Challenges? All the other leaderboards they have around here???

You really can't go by that because this game isn't pay-to-win....sorry to bust your bubble about that. Also I am far from what I would consider a big spender and have came in as high as 20th place in those same tournaments. In fact my lowest was I think 37th out of over 2000 partispants in the particular mech I was running. 20th place puts me in the top 1%. 37th place puts me in the top 2% just to give you an idea.

Note: No I don't consider myself to be in the top 2% skillwise because fortunately or unfortunately your individual ELO can easily prevent you from ever facing the true top 2% Elite in this game. For example, I (or anyone for that matter) could just be the very best of the lowest ELO tier and still place highly in the tournament. Obviously if I am only ever facing truely bad players when I am just bad (not truely bad), then I too will manage to make 5 kills, 5 assists and 800 damage per match just like the true Elite.

I put No even though I have dumped a fair amount of money into this game as its all I play. didn't have money for founders but I have more than made up for that now. PGI have tried to market this as a Free to play and pay if you wish to for some small extra benefits. if they did it would not affect me in the slightest

No. I don't need to know who's rich and who's not and don't care about it either.

the thing with internet gamig folks is.... if there would be a golden Mech to buy in MWO which costs 999$, there would be people who would buy it.

I just dont get why PGI does not realize this.

Hell yes they should make this thing. Some dude will throw money at it and end up supporting the game. Id prefer it if the game doesnt collapse as I wait for CW.

I know some people are discussing creating a 4 digit support group.

Yes... people have spent over a thousand dollars on this game already.

Wow... I felt cheated spending about $250 after all that they renegged on. My wife would shoot me at this point if I'd unloaded 4x what I spent on a game I no longer want to play.

Considering they have the money to splurge on a silly game, they're probably laughing at you. All the way to the bank.

edit:typo

Ah yes, one of my favorite assumptions on this forum, always hilarious.

Lots of us have plenty of money to spend on whatever we choose, we're just waiting for a compelling reason to spend it here.

So after some recent discussions on a rather popular video game forum that has a significant player base here, one of the subthreads evolved into a discussion about how much people have already spent on the game. Having spent a decent amount on this game myself, I was interested in knowing where I fit in the grand scheme of idiots with more money than brains.

With that being said, what I'd like to see is a new Top 25 list; an ongoing one that shows the people who have spent the *most* money on this game. The list should be opt-in only (with placeholders that reflect the House, Merc or Lone wolf status for people who don't want others to know about their Daddy Warbucks-style bank accounts).

Face it, PGI: People will compete over anything, and you know if someone is sitting at 26th place and only $10 off, there is a decent chance that person will dump a bit more money into the game to crack into the list. Plus, it will give those who are thinking about spending a small amount on the game a chance to see that they aren't the only ones. There is a built in support group out there of people who pay to play! Psychologically, having this list will probably have a positive effect on revenue generation for PGI.

Other possible options:
  • Top spenders over a time period (month, quarter, year, etc).
  • Honorary cockpit items for making the list
  • PGI Loyalty Points ;-)
As an aside: How much *has* the biggest spender plunked down on this game?

what's the actual point to this? I mean as in what are you wanting to have this implemented for?

It sounds like just another way for some to say "Hey I spent money this much money so I should have more input." or "I spent this much money so your opinion isn't as important as mine"

Not to mention that's just begging for name and shame type situations

Great idea. A short list of people to laugh about.

... says the Legendary Founder.

Seriously, if a few hundred dollars is too much to spend on your pastime then maybe you should either reconsider your pastime or take up a profitable pastime. I used to rock climb and play hockey, that cost me at least $100 a month each for years.

That said, I think the answer is "no", because if those same people happen to top another leaderboard people will start shouting P2W even though it doesn't make any sense. Additionally, it's rather tactless to rank people by spend. Ranking by skill is far more relevant.

It has several points. One, for those who dump ridiculous money into the game it gives them another method of recognition, which can be a powerful driving force. Whales trying to out-whale each other can lead to rapid growth in revenue.

Also, it will show people who are thinking about spending money on the game that others are *seriously* committed to it. That may encourage them to open up their wallets. Not to crack the top 25, but as validation that others are doing it, so it's probably a good idea.

And making the list opt-in will allow people to avoid name and shame if they choose. However, there is zero difference between this Top 25 list than the ones they've created for other in-game contests, which recognize people for other activities in game.

People will use the "I paid money so my input is more valuable" line regardless. 3PV ring a bell? "They are abandoning their core players!!" Well, just because you bought a legendary founder's package doesn't mean you get to sit at the design table. If the Top 25 whales believe that their money will entitle them to that... that's their problem, not PGIs.

What was it that I read a few years back? Some servey group thing ( I think it was part of EA ) said that whales makes up a VAST majority of F2P income? Like Less than 5% of the commmunity is responsible for over 70% of sales income?

So, isn't this MORE reasoning for PGI to stop sying the core community (who is probably the 5%) spending the most money on this game, is on an island? Maybe ******* off their core community is a bad idea... (obviously)

The core community is not that 5%, although I can see how the people who whine about it the most feel like they are. Of the 2 people I know who (claimed to) have spent in the 4 digits on this game, neither are upset about things like 3PV or ghost heat. Just annoyed at the pace of development.

Not to mention if Big Spender #25 quits because "WRRAA 3PV!!!", he'll instantly be replaced by Big Spender #26.

That would make a great forum badge for them too! Just need to crack the top 25 once, and you get it as a choice of all the different ones available.

(By the way, if you made that I *really* like it!)
