Well well well after a long battle I have come across a proper affinity selection program called Prifinitty2 [Redacted] This is badass!!!! What can I say Its such a great feeling to watch all 8cores dance while sitting in my mech bay SWEET JEEBUZ!

After careful assessment and double check with setting inside program, I can set the affinity how I please oh lawd this is heavy. can run all 8cores or remove program changes and revert to only 4 as before pffft not likely.

Huh, I still can't get my fx8320 to work with 8 cores on Windows 8.

Also, would you mind doing a couple comparative benchmarks when you get a chance?

Had to do some running around this afternoon, I haven't managed to upload much to MWO forums in general but I will make a fraps video and give it a go.

I dont understand how this will help unless you have an obvious bottleneck with your CPU/GPU.

utilizing 8 threads vs utilizing 4 threads is a no brainer............they all dance around 30-50%load now rather than 4 cores selected at a time to run MWO using pegged around 75-100% for me....before....... When my kid goes to sleep I will produce a video, Shes apparently not ready to le me do that yet.

This is like CCC that allowed you to put Crysis Physics on whatever core you wanted (4-core CPU has cores 0-3 and I put mine on 3). Used it whilst playing MW:LL.

Well despite my efforts to put it back to 4threads only I cannot undo the things Ive done, I cannot un see the things My Fx has seen, Im guessing this program has changed or modified some registry line somewhere, I haven't tracked it down, but really that's hardly a complaint. I pressed 3 mouse clicks watched my thread count of active threads double and now I cant go back. go figure. I can see I have just barely fit myself into this rabbit hole.........I shall return.

You could maybe try disabling 4 cores in the bios.

That would disable them completely, I want them to be active but not used by MWO, and through park control and Prifinitty2 I managed to lock the cores as desired. I can run 4 as usual so the load bounces around from 1 to 8 randomly, and I can even disable or park cores 2,4,6,8, so that I run strict quad core Fx with unchanging cores(stops bouncing around SMTstyle)........ and so far the full enchilada with all 8 pistons firing is the best as I can tell so far heres a video, showing how default can take massive hit to FPS when pretty stuff happens with only 4 cores @ 4.5ghz **edit**when I watched this here I could not see the FPS counter dip to 14FPS.........stupid lower left overlay.....

http://youtu.be/e9wOv9t_KJg **note my framerate without recording at (30FPS) in that very map and at that very commando and 50M distance is about 45-50now........before i shoot.staying well above 30FPS for a much smoother overall play. This is the big bad OC 8350 @ 4.5 lol, I turned the clock down 300mhz due to the heat and humidity were having here.....but still this is a huge noticeable difference, the minute and a half that has timed by in MWOs game is when I swapped to desktop and changed affinity to 8cores.......to release the beast!. im most definitely going to try to make other games I have run all 8cores..........more to come soon. **Hell It has even tamed my heat a wee bit but not having any single core work harder than 60% dropped from 40-43C CPU in mechbay (10min period) to a now pleasant 35-38C(10mins).Im convinced.

download the program linked in my original post, set MWOclient to favourite, than change your favourite(MWOclient.exe)settings to include all bulldozer cores 0-7 and select realtime affinity, watch them puppies dance. and minumum FPS go up.*now that it has cooled off here I may try to OC back to 4.8 to see what happens

Pairs of cores in the FX share the cache.

It is using all 8 cores.

are you using a quad core cpu with 8 threads, or one of those shoddy amd 8 core 8 thread cpus?

my new laptop is coming with a hex 6 core 12 thread i7 stock clocked at 4 ghz, cant wait to let mwo run at full throttle with the 780s in sli and no bottlenecks.

Indeed I use Fx8350 LC @ 4.5-4.8ghz, but MWO has never utilized ANY more than 4 threads of it. EVER, Now run it full blown @ 8 threads. I will try to apply this to other games I own that don't fully utilize all threads.

Intel/Nvidia spec you need for maxed 1080p @60fps is an i5-3470 and GTX660. That's AA and vsync on too.

Video recording requires AA and vsync off though so that's where you'll have an advantage.
