So this is my Catapract build. I find this is pretty much the mech I prefer to take out, and it really seems to pound anything I shoot at to Pieces.

Heat just isnt an issue as its mostly Auto-cannon based weaponry with some lasers for backup. It does have really nice speed as well though, its no slouch and keeps up with most people. Many a bih assualt battlemech has felt what a combination of dual UAC/5 and an ac/10 can do to it, at under 300 metres even Atlas's have gone from pristine to cores in a matter of seconds.

Looks like a fairly straight up Ilya build to me except for the ammo. Didn't it come with two ac/5 and and ac10 with med lasers when you bought it??

FWIW....The Ilya is my current favorite heavy mech, although I dont run an XL engine in mine, they are too fragile in the shoulders with an xl.

I find cataphracts die more from centre torso hits than shoulder so the XL does work if your careful.

I run mine with a pair of gauss and 3 mlas it does really well, going ballistic is the way forward with your IIya.

the amount of armour in both my leggs greatly exceeds the amount in either torso area. Popping off legs is kind if inefficiant dont you think, ammo explosions aside.

It comes with 2 ac/5, 1ac/10 and 3 small lasers. Mine has 2 ultras, way more speed and medium lasers. It is quite an upgrade. its more of an evolution than an innovation, if you know what i mean, this is pretty much the best an ilya can get while sticking with variations of its stock weapons.

I haven't found uacs to be reliable enough. I also don't like to rely on the arm hardpoints because they are so low-slung, which makes firing over terrain difficult at times. The two energy mounts in the torso are beautifully high, making it easy to fire over cover.

I use this on my Ilya, and I've had great results: link. I've found the ER lasers surprisingly effective. I prioritise the lasers, and reserve the ac5s for when my heat gets high or when I'm pressed hard/have a clear shot at an important target.

Dual Guass 3ML build. This is a very evil mech to face against, High alpha with low heat and you can fire and forget allowing you to take damage where you want.

As an added bonus, the guass ammo in the same slots as the weapons decreases the chance that the Guass Rifle takes a critical hit, the ammo will take the damage an absurdly high percentage of the time, meaning you can lose an arm an not blow up.

Which is fine until your arm blows up. Gauss rifles are so fragile.

Also, you can't bring your main weapons to bear without exposing your entire mech to return fire, and it's often difficult to shoot over terrain.

I tried 2xgauss for a bit, but I wasn't happy with it.

My Ilya rolls the dual gauss w/ 2xMPLs. I've been legged once in over 130 matches. Before going with this build, I had a K/D around 1.3. After playing 50 matches with the dual gauss, its up to 2.0. That's with about 160 kills. The MPLs may be more painful on the heat, but the quick strike and being able to focus on one panel is exactly what I'm looking for in a laser.

The build has a bit too much Ultra ammo IMO. He could reduce his Ultra ammo by 1 or maybe 2 tons and be able to restore some armor. I know ammo can go quickly, but 5 tons is a bit much for 2 cannons. He could get away with 4 and maybe even 3 depending.

If I was him, I would see on average how much ammo he had left at the end of a match and adjust accordingly.

Yeah people rarely seem to go for the side torsos for some reason. Honestly it is just easier to hit a target center mass and no matter what type of engine they are running, coring the CT will kill it.

However, I am starting to go for side torso shots alot more on mechs that usually run XLs and have good petty good success with it so far. Especially those Jaggys. I mean your pretty much guarenteed to see an XL in a AC/40 set up and they have relatively week RT/LT. Going for the side torsos will pretty much equalize firepower in close when it comes down to who can kill who faster.

Be careful with that. I feel like many of my cataphract kills have been because I specifically target their sides as they tend to have XLs.

Easier to pop off legs with 33 armor. And then hoping for ammo explosions as well.
