http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Factions is all what you need to find out.
To make it short: Choose Kurita, they are the coolest and have the most awesome mechs EVAR. Plus: We got hot Asian chicks in huge numbers.

Sarna's BattleMech portal has nice lists for all the available battlemechs, such as:

Mechs made in the Capellan Confederation
Mechs made in the Draconis Combine
Mechs made in the Federated Suns
Mechs made in the Free Rasalhague Republic
Mechs made in the Free Worlds League
Mechs made in the Lyran Commonwealth

There are also many mech which are "inner sphere general", mechs produced is such large quantities that every faction has them somewhere. Hunchback/Catapault/Stalker/Awesome can be found in any state's armies.

I forgot which book set this stuff up, but there's literally a list of which factories are on which worlds somewhere out there, leading to some general 'mechs being more common in other armies than some. That and salvage.

There's a lot of misinformation outside of Sarna on this stuff too. So many people think the Victor is a Davion 'mech because it was Davion designed, but the Combine conquered all the worlds with the factories. Also it was named several hundred years before that white hat Victor Davion showed up. (I hate Victor Davion so much. My name is no relation.)

Thank you so much for the general page, I was stuck thinking that I should only use Blackjacks, Ravens and Cataphracts at the moment!

Greetings.

There is such detailed guide. But it is in russian language.
Guide is based on technical readouts, and matches current timeline. Sarna.net gives info for 3067.

If there is enough need for translation, i could try..

Ok, will start translation.

For start, here is tables from BattleTech 10979 - Combat Operations, list of mechs ever used by faction. Not much to translate here)
Year near mech model means era, when mech start in service.
* - announced mechs, unknown which models are playable
** - not playable models, but they can be built in mechlab
*** - not playable models, can not be built in mechlab

This list shows what mechs are used by factions, but not showing how massively. That info is in other parts in guide, but i need time to translate them +- correctly.

Spoiler

Wow, thanks for the translation!

That being said as I can see, all faction use all type of mechs. The only thing they dont share are a few exeptions(dragons?) and some variants.

Im disapointed I have to admit. I hoped faction had more of a personnality to them.

They are. It is just list of mechs ever used. For example Commando - very few by Davions, massively by Steiner; - but they both using it. Such details will come soon.

For now, another tables, from BattleTech 35014 - Historical - War of 3039. It is 11 years before "now", so it is not include some new models like Raven-3L or Awesome-9M. But it shows how popular some models are in factions.
Numbers like 2/33 means percent, "this model" / "total number mechs in weight class".

Spoiler

Point of order: The Combine conquered Quentin, but only in 3039, and the Davions were at the time allied with the St. Ives Compact, who sold them Victors from the HildCo factory on St. Ives. They also rebuilt the Tao MechWorks line on Styk at some point, and would ultimately build another on New Valencia after losing both St. Ives and Styk to the Capellans. So the Davions have historically had access to the Victor, and did so in 3050.

Also, it wasn't "Davion designed", being initially produced by HildCo for the Terran Hegemony and later the Star League.

This concludes your BattleTech Nerd Moment. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. :)

It does kinda seem like a ******* mech.

Well Jimbo, we found a really big barrel and we gonna mount it on this broken down Shadow Hawk chassis we found.

Is it gonna go fast?

Who needs it to go fast when you got da boom?

I believe you are thinking of the 'Objective Raids' sourcebook.

Each of you are amazing sources of information. I'm new to a majority of MW deeper cannon (outside of a few books read long ago). Can anyone direct me to faction specific reading and or forum? Cheers

This is something I threw together for kicks not too long ago but cannot guarantee it's accuracy or completion. From the looks of it, the previous list is very very accurate. The source I used was probably in the 3050-3055 era as it took the Steiner/Davion alliance into account.
