This not a brag post. I am not very good at this game.

I have had nights where I lost 5 or more games in a row due to bad balance.

But tonight (Sunday night US time) I got on for a few games.

8 kills, one death. Three games. This is very unusual for me.

Did I just get lucky? Or is the matchmaker getting better? PGI says that they are tweaking it. It makes me wonder if my winning streaks and losing streaks are just luck or that PGI is messing with the matchmaker algorithm.

Thoughts?

The MM is designed to make you start losing if you win too much and start winning if you lose too much; this is why most people observe wins/losses in streaks.

Statistical variance will result in strange things.

you have your Elo score and your weight class and then there's "matchmaking time" - these 3 factors decide your lineup.

If you loose some matches, your elo is likely to drop a bit, matching you against "weaker" enemies, in theory.

Besides that, matchmaking tries to build a equal match, which means roughly the same tonnage(mech classes) on both sides.

And at last, you don't want to wait forever to find a match so with more time the mm needs, the more these "rules" soften up - so you could end in an 8 Atlas vs 8 Commandos match.

On top of that, there are the premade teams, which are matched first it seems. and you as pug player are the filler for these matches.
