This is SERIOUSLY going to need MASC.

A stray ac10 round will cripple this thing!

though i would say that maybe if they keep the profile small it could be nice and inconspicuous.

Death by a thousand pin ******. Max out the engine say a 400xl, demand MASC, slap what ever laser it can handle, and then run around at 200 kph going zzt zzt zzt

If they can't increase the speed, they need to not make you waste tonnage with the whole minimum 10 heatsink law, which makes zero sense. A 100 ton mech has a minimum of 10 heat sinks, and a 20 ton mech has a minimum of 10 heatsinks.... WHY?

It's like saying every economy car needs a 900 pound radiator because a super-huge industrial caterpillar bulldozer needs one.

For everyone that like me have been a bit worried about the size of the Locust - worry no more. Russ just posted a screenie of one, and it's TINY:

It's a stock BT rule, not some MWO oddity.

Is the engine max size a guess or did they post that?

Edit: They posted it. Darn.

All my spider piloting might be needed to make that locust work!. Going to be a rough leveling process. :P

They could at least increase the max engine to 175 so you only need 3 externals. The crit space needed for 4 is a little ridiculous.

Ok, not I'm suddently more interested. 1 MPL, 4 MGs with 2 tons of ammo, and an XL190 sounds fun. 177kph of pure annoyance.

So it's going to be a mech the size of a(n atlas') shoe moving at the highest top speed in the game (unless other mechs get updated top speeds at the same time, of course).

I have to say that this moves the locust up my list of priorities a bit -- previously it was the bottom of the bin for Phoenix mechs.

I think for now, I'm hoping it's only the Locust. Otherwise Jenners and Spiders get a speed increase, and the locust is less special.

True, but we've been all waiting patiently for a speed increase.

The Locust being small and fast will still be a bonus compared to larger mechs. As well current load-outs would become weaker once spiders and jenners increase their engines.! firepower for speed. Can't have both! :P

What is the best one ton energy weapon for use inside machine gun range? I can't decide between mlas, splas or flamer.

The commando should get a bit of a bump imo. Maybe to 220 or 225? The other lights are fine where they are (except maybe the raven 2X and 4X).

The raven 2x and 4x need speed desperately!! If they increase the engine maximum from stock 160 (locust) to 190 max, thats roughly 1.2X stock engine. If you use the same for all lights;

Spider 240 = 285 max engine (currently 255) Using a 1.07x multiplier; heavily nerfed should be 330 (1.4x) max option.
Commando 150 = 180 max engine (currently 210) Using a 1.4x multiplier; already maxed
Jenner 245 = 290 max engine (currently 300) Using 1.23x multiplier; also nerfed should be 340 (1.4x) max option.
Raven 210 = 250 max engine (currently 295) using 1.4x multiplier; already max speed

Only the Jenner and the Spider should be getting any speed boost based on 1.4x engine multiplier.

Side note; All ravens should go 3L speed. No idea whats going on there!

Still a little ways to go before we get to see the difference in lights strenths, weaknesses and playing style.

While the commando could use it, canon wise the commando was slower than the Jenner, so it doesn't seem likely.

...and a cap accelerator. Just tuck in under the base structure and ride out the lrm-storm. :)
