If a slope is too steep, no mech should be able to climb it. Fine you already have that.
If it's climable then your speed reduction should be a percentage of your top speed that is dependent on the chasis you are running. Obviously Lights would have less of a penalty than Assaults. You seem to have covered that too.
I just think that the penalty is too much for the larger mechs. In a lot of ways it ruins the Canyon map when it doesn't really have to.
I'm not sure what the penaltys are per chasis, but here is my suggestion;
Lights: 10-20% reduction in speed
Mediums: 20-40%
Heavy: 40-50%
Assaults: 50- 75%
I dont know if this is close to what you have implemented, but I would prefer a penalty that still allows the bigger mechs to negotiate a steep incline, but slows them so much that the lighter mech has a significant advantage when using terrain to avoid damage or elude a chase. Right now it seems a bit too heavy handed.
As well, I think that with this new dynamic you need to make navigable terrain on slopes more recognizable, so some tweaking of the visuals might be in order so we can at least recognize a viable uphill slope

- New Movement Archetypes.
- Mechs are now unable to traverse slopes greater than 45°
- Mechs will now slow down when climbing slopes from 20° to 45°, depending on mech size.
WHY?????
Because its fun thats why. Plenty of places to climb on most maps. In fact 2 places I normally run over on on two different maps caused me to die. Lesson learned. My only grief is if I make it to the top of said hill do not make me stuck until I turn.

This is the first pass of a pretty major fundamental game change and overall it's quite a lot of fun and has changed the feel of how maps play. But like any large change it's not without it's faults, so as you come across them report them so they can be corrected in the subsequent passes.

Someone without a knee jerk reaction!! My god man why have you came here?
Personally I am glad mechs slow down or cannot pass over something. As I said in another thread, make me a diagram showing how a bipedal mech would climb a hill of 45deg or greater without its joints binding and not climbing up on its tippy toes. Every time they try to add something sim like you get the FPS crowd who thinks you should be bunny hopping over mountains head shooting everyone.

Heh, I try to avoid knee jerk reactions as a matter of principle, it usually leads to better discussions without the message getting lost on either side.

Pgi's communication level has dropped to like 2% of what it was just a couple months ago. none of them reply on twitter. we have an interesting NGNG podcast with Russ where he tries to reassure us everything is fine but has no hard facts to back anything up.
it's just sad.
they havent kept us informed of anything since the "great burning down of the forums on easter weekend" event

They think this is a game where they can make a balance change every 2 months and be okay. They don't understand that in a competitive online game balance needs more attention than that. It needs to be constantly tweeked, albiet very small tweaks. Learn from league of legends.
a small heat percentage increase would nerf the PPC where they need to be. They got PPCs into this mess by reducing its heat, they can get out by increasing it. You go out the same door you come in from. You don't walk into walls or window panes, that won't get u out of the mess.
The common sense is strong with this one...

That'd be great if they weren't taking payment. Besides that, you think it's going to suddenly become the game they sold it to founders as upon launch? Grow the f**k up.
You are no longer worth the time it takes to respond to.

Which takes around 3-5 games to get used to and having no issues. They might need to improve JJs so that they get more height when installed on Legs, and give you forward acceleration when installed into Torsos, so you can arrange them for your needs.

I am a victim of doing it myself. Lately more than most times but on occasion I can take a step back and breathe before venting.

Off topic I know, but it's really irritating.
Now, hopefully PPCs see a small uptick in heat soon to play into the new heat penalty mechanic.
this is why I have pulled my re-curring donation to NGNG, also due to thier unstable servers our clan has moved off thier servers aswell, we maintain a presence there like NGNG is the "outreach" of MWO as have many other groups...
They tend to promote thier own agenda and weapons they favor rather than the masses, problem with this is PGI mainly listens to them instead of us vocal minorities on the forums.. I wonder what constitues a minority in this case? certainly not numbers...

If your answer is no I wouldn't, I have some chocolate suppositories I'd like you to invest in, they have a life time garantee
Its called ethics... most businesses have them. PGI does too.. sometimes... well.. the stupid gets in the way at times but they dont intend for it to...
