I for one, love them, The AC 20 sounds deeper and you can almost feel it going down range. The PPCs sound good even though the change is less spectacular than the ACs. LRMs sounds are a bith higher pitched and really bring home the fact that a swarm of rockets just took off.

The PPCs sound like they have more of a kick now, but I actually prefer the previous sound effect - it had more character, whereas the new one is almost a bit too reminiscent of a ballistic cannon.
The AC/2 has a better sound now, I think, but it could be better. It seems to me that there are two components to it - the percussion of the shell being fired and some sort of reverberation that's either the metal clanging hollowly or the mechanism sliding a new shell into the barrel. It's this reverberation that I don't particularly like, but it was also a component in the old AC/2 sound. The rest of the autocannons have great sounds now, but as many people are saying, they miiiiight just be a bit loud...

I love the new sounds, weapons now sound like what the are, huge, powerful and noisy.
Never felt so good shooting Quad AC2s.

I run a X-Fi Titanium HD and the new sounds are horrible. I can kind of tell what they were intending, but something is broken and its obviously not just me.
For example, the PPC sounds a little like a whip crack, but the reverb and tinny metallic echo makes it sound very average.
The AC's sound completely different to what others here are describing. The best way I can describe them is 'fhoop'. Kind of a hollow, air gun / spud cannon type noise. Not at all exciting or powerful. Major backwards change from my end.
However others here are describing completely different sound. While yet more seem to be having similar issues to me.
Perhaps it's a tech thing - I also run with I believe Dolby enabled. Are those without issues running onboard sound perhaps?
My system normally sounds great, these sounds are really sub par so something weird is going on.

Run 4 AC2 on same mech as MGs or Medium lasers. If you turn the sound down enough it doesn't blow the speakers with the 4xAC2's firing at once you will not hear the MGS or lasers at all.
If I fire the 4xACs chain fire its still louder than it was (still too much) but its closer to tolerable so it is some kind of multiplier effect.
Hot fix please?
I tested this on the Testing Grounds River City (day) if it matters.

I miss the PPC's screech sound from the older games, but that's just me.

Could also be something to do with the speaker set up that people are using as well.
The audio setup i have is onboard supreme x-fi soundcard with razer blackshark headphones. Not running any sound enhancement software either. So i think there may be a connection with the new sounds, people's like/dislike of the, and the setup they are using.

And it's not my speakers, and it's not my soundcard, or my systems sound level. Thanks for checking though.

I am running a SB Recon 3D sounds card with Earforce Z6A amplified 5.1 headphones and the game sounds _terrible_ after today's patch.
I'm running a Xonar DG card with Sennheiser HD598s (amped). I run without 5.1 to make the game work so I can't comment on any positionals issues. I can, however, agree with you on how tinny/flat the new sound effects are. I'm not looking for a damn concert, but the sounds are lacking any kind of depth. If they want to keep them, they need to improve them so they're not just a kid banging trash can lids on an analog.

The only time it is ever related to speakers / headphones is if volumes are too loud and create clipping or feedback. Or if the input exceeds the frequency response of the device (such as very low bass etc). In this game that is not likely to be the culprit.
In this instance it is 99% likely to be software related as it was introduced in a patch.
Therefore basic scientific theory is to gather the variables and look for commonality.
So no need to list headphones or speakers. What is relevant is items like the following:
What sound device do you use - Dedicated or Onboard? Creative or Realtek etc
Configuration - 5.1, 7.1, Stereo etc
Processing - Digital effects such as Dolby, EAX etc.
Software - Drivers? 64bit, 32bit? Operating system?
The key being to find something the people with issues have in common with each other, as this will tell PGI where it all went wrong. There are some items we have no control over such as software channels in the game, I'm hoping PGI can look at these in conjunction with any answers we give.
For my part I'm at work and don't want to use guesswork for my answers. I'll put up my details when I get home.
