7000 active users at any given time really aint an awful lot if 1mil have dled your game... Less than 1% online at any one time.

Even if every single player disconnects and a whole new 7000 comes online and that cycle repeats every hour for 24 hours, that's only 16% who's sticking around to play

Actually, that's an enormous conversion rate. Traditional games (the kind you pay $50 and play forever) aimed for a whopping 1 or 2% conversion rates on their demos. 16% is a very high number.

Free-to-Play games are supposed to average $4 per active user per month in revenue. I'd be more interested in seeing that data, but I doubt it will ever be published.

I also like that they do not pretend that registered users is the same as active users. Way to many companies today try to pass off the registered users as equalling active users.

also don't forget about players who have made multiple accounts to overcome mechbay slot limitation...

i remember when league of legends was said to have the most players of any online game...i personally had like 10 accounts...

"Being an effective game publisher in the age of digital is about being a transparent layer between the player community and the people who're making the games.

At least that's how Infinite Game Publishing approaches the business. Judging by the company's latest milestone, publishers big and small should take note. " taken from the Kris Graft quote in the OP...

guess we know where a some of that money we spent on the game went...paying off this guy to ignore facts...

~ 3,000 <===> 7,000 players online (playing at any given time, est. average) based on close beta number and NGNG #79 (start at 49 minutes in)

Just as an fyi...the number given during the NGNG #79 wasn't actually a playercount number. It was a 'whatif' number PGI randomly pulled out of the air during an explanation of WHY they don't give us a player count. Paraphrased, it was:

"We don't give a playercount because we don't want to have players get discouraged because they only see, say, three thousand players online, and start comparing it to other F2P games."

In reality, that number could be bigger or smaller...

I have 3 accounts, so 1mill registered and downloaded doesn't mean much.

I think I saw 5k once in CB when Paul released 10,000 beta keys. IGP is advertising Tactics like crazy, but I rarely see MWO ads.

Step 1: Stop advertising tactics

Step 2:

Step 3: Profit

Ok.. heres the thing that gets me
  • 1,000,000+ users who downloaded and played at least 1 game.
  • 490,000+ forum members
Now correct me if im wrong, but to play the game you need a MWOmercs.com account riiiight.. and that then in turn makes you a forum member, as you dont signup again to be a forum member, soooo ohow can you have double the amount of players to forum members??

I smell some ponzi math here..

Not likely. Most people avoid forums like the plague. Mostly because they are a plague.

But our forums are so organized and full of positive thoughts, we need to get the word out to those poor players not privy to our wisdom :)

Congrats to the Devs for 1 mil registered. For a game in Beta that's pretty good! People should read and comment in the forums. Especially the ones who complain about the game but still play it. IT'S IN BETA !!! If you don't make a constructive comment then how can the devs adjust or fix anything? Thanks for a kick-*** game so far devs!

It's great progress for this game. Now we need an agressive hype-machine going through august to the release to really expose the game. :)
