Well the Spider is going to be a lot better at distracting and surviving than the Locust due to JJ, that much is certain. Spider-K without JJs, it's going to be as terrible as it sounds. The best thing you can hope for is bugged as heck hitboxes so you'll avoid damage even when you're hit.

I think it is pretty obvious that unless the locust is truely tiny or has insane manuverability it is going to be a joke as far as effectiveness goes.
You guys have pretty much hit the only build for it that have any chance of being even somewhat effective though I am sure we will see some crazy builds just because people can and they will do it for a laugh.

I'll wait to see what happens to MG to make a judgment. That ER LL looks like it might be workable. The original looks very like the Cicada 3-B without the armor.

whelp there are still more variants to come. maybe there will be a decent one.
I just wish they were more generous with the hardpoints for light mechs.

just guessing but with 7tons of wpns to play with you will see a erppc variant. or a 3mpl variant. id even go so far as to say we may see a 2streak 2ml variant

the one Franoi has is the one I'm gonna try, figure if you are REAL careful you can maybe use that ER laser to good effect.

The locust's usage is going to hinge on two things 1) size (it had better be smaller than a jenner) and 2)speed (once they fix their bugged net code and get mechs going over 150 I hope we'll be seeing some reworked mechs on the low end with larger engines allowed.
Finally, the 10heat sink requirement stinks with engines that small, and loadouts that tiny.

This may sound like heresy, but for the 20 ton mechs, especially the flea, I intend to run a standard engine.
It only costs two-three tons depending on whether you can squeeze ferro with an xl, and lets be honest with a 20 ton mech you are probably going to be one shotted on both side torsos and center torsos might as well make it a little harder. With full armor to the front, you are looking at a 30 alpha one shotting on a side torso and a 36 alpha one shotting on the center torso. Considering most pilots will opt for some back armor and often you take a few lrms and laser rakes before the heavy fighting starts, you are looking at any single ac20 user or dual ppc user 1 shotting your mech from the side torso.
Also, drop your head armor way down. The head gets 15 structure as opposed to the 50% of max armor for the rest of the mech, given how small you are you just can't afford 2.5% of your entire mech going to the head. Even with 1 armor point, it will still take 16 damage to get a head kill, which I imagine will be hard on a 20 ton mech. (I don't advocate dropping head armor like this for any other mechs
Here is what I would run, but honestly I'll just wait for the flea, better hitboxes probably and I'd rather have a FLE-15 with 5x sl + 2x mg.

med-pulse zombie?

1 ton shy of doing the same with LL (can only fit 3 HS w/std 170...). could go xl depending on the side torsos, or drop to 155 std and trim some armor...
