as much as i love MWO, this so-called launch is the most lame event i have seen for a long time...

so lame it doesn't even deserve the name event.
there is nothing. no hype, so suspense, no great new features, just nothing.

it will be a patch just like every ther patch. a new mech - that isn't so new after all, and some fixes/changes. no biggie.

it's just irrelevant to the game and the franchise - and that's a first class opportunity lost...

Straight to the point and correct.

Dragunz Pryde, you have the jist of what I have been contemplating. I have viewed all of my purchases of this game under the idea that all things I think I am paying for may change and WILL change over the course of the games development.
I pay money because I think the gameplay is smooth, graphics are reasonable, there is a good indication of constant development of new mechs, maps, events, etc and I think that there wouldnt be a game to complain about at all if these guys didnt have the money for their coffee, advertising, travel expenses, rent, bills, to make the game we play to relax. Also you dont have to pay them. You can play for free...they are OK with that.
Quit complaining about what they do or dont do with your free entertainment they are willing to provide for you. If you bought in early, you should have known the reality hammer would have to come down. Sales would have to exist for the game to progress.
The nice thing about a well supported Free to Play game is that it will only get better if you help keep it alive and the longer they live the better they get.

Not after I've given my word. If I do so, I expect and accept I'm doing something wrong, with everything that entails.

And that world is a much better place than the one you seem to prefer, where people lie to each other all the time and a person's word is only so much hot air coming out of their mouth.

Weird. In business if goals change and I have to tell my people that what used to be policy is no longer policy, they usually accept that. They don't accuse me of lying. But then again, I work with professionals, not guys who play video games.

Remember guys, keep your eyes shut!!!

the classic 'those who do not agree with my position are blind/stupid'
works especially well when your position isn't well outlined, and you're
pretty much trying to bully others out of questioning its merit.

splendidly done.

In your world, you can never change your mind?

That's a horrible place!

You tell your friend, "Hey, I won't try to date your sister." You swear up and down you are not attracted to her, you explain to your friend and his friends that you are not attracted to her and that this simply will never happen so there is nothing to worry about.

You later say "Hey, I think your sister is kind of cute..." and your friend freaks out and his friends freak out so you back off and say "Whoa, hey, no worries, I'm not going to go after her, just saying she is cute..."

Again, friend calms down, figures this is settled, you all move on.

Then one day, you sneak into your friend's house and do unmentionable things to his sister. Friend is rightfully a bit pissed off, yes?

Sure, you are allowed to change your mind.

Those who interact with you are free to be very @#$%ing angry when you go back on your word, change your mind, and do something to them you had been swearing you would not do, and you do it via a massive {Richard Cameron}-move surprise change with no warning and then a bumbling, poorly worded, insincere apology that drives a further wedge between you and those you are apologizing to.

you hit upon something with language online, but i'm troubled less by profanity so much as general insincerity: when opinions professed are means to an end. when the conversation must be controlled and deliberate methods are outlined in steering attitudes in whatever direction, provoking or promoting a certain type of response. you see the sort of thing happen in politics, and hope to find diversions of the sort this game represents as moments of respite from constantly questioning the sincerity of everything you are exposed to in real life. Unfortunately that has ceased to be the case, as evidenced by the group of folks you're pointing out in your post.

The issues themselves are at times so vague, absurd or outright contradictory to each other that i struggle to believe that the people saying these things can, even to the smallest extent, sincerely believe in anything they say with the exception of their distaste for PGI. Things have gotten ugly. My only hope is that, given time, these people will understand the diminishing returns of their not-inconsiderable efforts. Taking time off of work so you can play at being internet shitlord machiavelli is at once a punchline and something sickening.

And it's always the same small group of people who are complaining. Everyone else is out there playing the game, apparently.

That's a pretty good analogy as far as analogies go, but if your friend won't let you date his sister, is he really your friend?

If your customer doesn't support your business decision and actively tries to prevent other people from playing, is he really your customer?

@Heffay

If you tell your business-partners that they get X for their money and some time later you change your mind and only give them something completely different i doubt they will accept it.

I don't get it why some people are defending the behavior of PGI no matter what. It's nothing about the game but telling people they get something or something else won't happen and then changing their mind completely while getting paid for this game isn't how it should be.

i'm assuming you work for a small company and non union. Try lying to union workers and see what happens

Ha, cool. Tell those professionals that there 20 minute break is now 15 and you have no real problems, but tell them that you are cancelling their pension and see what happens. Peoples response, professional or otherwise, is dictated by what they deem as important.

Note that all patches occur at 1 PM Eastern, that's 10 AM Pacific. We won't see anything "launch-like" until then.
