I, for one, am waiting on more balance announcements and implementations before buying the Phoenix package. At this point, I already spent over 200$ on a game I don't play as often as I used due to frustration to the current meta and I want proofs that PGI are doing what needs to be done to make the game more fun.

Who else is waiting for PGI to announce your dream fixes before getting the phoenix package?

I am new to this game (in the last 2 weeks), and I WAS excited about the phoenix packages. I knew nothing about mechwarrior before I joined. My friend was a die hard for over a decade. I enjoyed my time the last 2 weeks. I was ready to plop down $80 on phoenix. Then yesterday happened and the movement change. I will give them until the 16th to fix or announce fixes for this movement abortion they implemented. If the do not then they lost a new customer who was very excited to hand them money. I'm not going to give money to something that isn't fun.

thx for the answer, although I must say you're perhaps a bit harsh? What do you want fixed? Do you want the entire movement rework removed or tweaked? IMO, although I haven't played the latest patch, it sounded like a good idea on paper.

Yes, I'm waiting.

If there are no major balance changes in the next patch or at the very, absolute least some concrete details on what they're planning to do (including numbers, which Paul seems afraid of posting these days) to address the current awful gameplay, then very likely no buy from me. BIG HUGE THINGS for July are still largely yet to eventuate, even in the form of announcements.

The package seems great and I'm very keen on the Shadow Hawk in particular. I've got the money to spare, but I'm not going to bother while my MWO experience is still "Log in, play 2 matches, quit in disgust."

I'm still deciding whether an announcement will be enough to convince me or if I'm gonna need significant changes in the next patch. Anyway, so far the results are very interesting.

The movement change is unnecessary and quite frankly idiotic imo. It feels like a solution looking for a problem. Now every map is less fun.

Well as I said I am relatively new so these complaints and observations are from the perspective of that:

1. Its buggy as hell. You can and will literally get stuck and reduced to zero speed on a pebble or bench. They did absolutely no testing when deploying this patch as any, even the most inexperienced, tester could have seen this was a problem. Getting stuck in a game even once to me usually makes me uninstall because it means it wasn't tested with any type of test script which to me shows a lack of quality. However in this case I've been suck or reduced to zero speed about 6-8 times a game on unseen microscopic "bumps".

2. You can be walking in a straight line on the edge of a hill and if your foot even clips the plane of the slighest of incline your mech takes a heavy speed penalty unless you're in a light or medium mech is seems.

3. They implement an arbitrary change to slow you down or outright stop you from incline on 45 degree anyles. The problem is you have no real gauge what those angle are when approaching an incline. Sure a side of a mountain you can see would be. However you can climb the slimest of inclines on a hill and if the hill has the slighest of bumps on it...dead stop because you couldn't tell that was more than a 45 degree angle.

4. The maps currently in game were not designed with this movement change in mind. Thus maps that were sprawling are now reduced to corridor shooters for anything other than the lighest mechs. You're funneled into 1 or 2 ways to traverse from one side to the other thus ensuring a mash em up shoot out. It feels like half of the areas of the maps that could be played in and utilized 2 days, cannot be used by hardly any mech. This effectively shrinks the playable areas of each map, and therefor makes each map smaller. If I wanted to play a corridor shooter I'd play counterstrike's claustrophobic maps.

5. Jump Jets seem like they should be much more valuable now. In some instance they are. But because once you're stuck at zero, you can only jump straight up, they really do little. You have to have forward movement while pressing the JJ to move forward in the air. So using them to climb a hill can get you in worse trouble than you were before. I've actually JJ'd into areas where I have been totally stuck twice and just had to wait for someone to kill me. Mind you 2 days ago I could walk to this area and walk out no problem. Even if you don't get perma stuck because of JJ's, you can land in an area that renders you to zero speed and it takes minutes of time to get out of it leaving you easy pickins for everything and everyone else.

6. While it seems like this should have encouraged light mech play and rightfully so, it basically made choosing a heavy or an assualt mech an exercise in fultity unless you're an LRM boat or PPC sniper.

7. Did I mentions its buggy as hell?

In general I like the idea of changing movement based on size of mech. A 100 ton monster shouldn't be able to move as quickly, especially up a sheer face, like a smaller more agile mech. That doesn't mean that areas of the map should be closed to you solely based on your preferred mech choice. The lighter the mech the faster they should move up the hill. The heavier the slower.

Due to this I put my credit card back in my wallet until they either start paying a QA team to check their build releases before deployment or outright revert the change until they can find a medium ground. I wanted to order phoenix because i was excited about it prior to this patch. However if this company is that sloppy with tossing patches out, remember my limited experience with them, then I'll just be a freeloader instead of a supporter like I want to be. I've dumped 100's into GW2, Path of Exile and numerous kickstarters. I hate being a feeloader on a game I truly enjoy. From 2 weeks ago when I started until yesterday, I was learning and looking into phoenix. Now I could seemingly care less. Sad really.

Did you miss the bit where you are playing a game in active beta testing? If you don't like testing WIP software then **** off and come back when it's released.

I know. I know I shouldn't even bother clicking the icon and starting the client anymore. But I really want to like this game, so I keep doing it thinking that maybe this time, maybe this patch, it's going to be different.

Did I ever tell you the definition of "insanity"?

If they can deliver two patches in a row that are at least good, then i'll consider this grab deal. If not, no.

It's Beta. We are the testers. PGI's testing duty only extends to making sure the game still starts up.

I was the head of QA in two different companies. These softlaunch free to play games that keep the "beta" tag while at the same time charging money for features do it because of gullible people such as yourself. Beta or no beta tag it speaks volumes to a company's ability to deliver a quality product when they let a build deploy with this many obvious bugs. You want to be a clueless fanboi go right ahead. When a company charges money, I no longer have any respect for their "beta" tag because they are using it for marketing purposes and to make excuses for shoddy standards.

And that's the problem. I mean this is the only current, new, and still developed Mech game on the market. I'd hate to see it go. And nice far cry 3 reference btw lol.

when it was first announced, i was like "ya i'll end up buying it despite my deep hatred." then i did some soul searching. decided to wait for "big things in july" but began to lean towards "probably will not buy." first patch in july was trash as we all know and i don't have plans to buy it. i'll just buy premium time, if anything.

Well only the early bird bonus ends in July. No word on when the packages itself will end although they have said they wanted everybody to get in if they want to.

Seeing as release is in September and Phoenix packages are released 15 Oct I'm guessing that they'll still offer Phoenix right up until end of Sept.

All guesses though. The point is you can wait a little bit if you don't mind losing the bonus premium time.

The bonus time just gives you more for your buck.

yes so after july 25th people are going to be less likely to buy it since the early bird gimmick will be over.

good point, especially in my case since I can't even use the premium, because I'm never home long enough to have long MWO play sessions. I do want to get the early bird bonus, but you're right by saying I won't miss much if I wait after july 25th... I haven't even used my founder's premium time... is there a time limit on using that thing?
