So got some basic questions regarding this variant:

a. XL Engine - keep or switch out for a Standard Engine?

b. How are it's default weapon setup? What to change?

You win +100 internets for the title of your post. I love my Metal, it's the only mech I have over 300 games in since they started tracking that. I love it even more then my Rainmaking Awesome LRM boat. This is how I run mine:

As for your questions:

A: Either is an option. The side torso's are small enough that if you are not right on someone with some twisting you should be able to protect it a little bit. It is however still an XL and as you see you can still run a standard 300 over the max engine size of 330, so are you really gaining that much? I personally run a standard because I like to get closer to the fights and brawl, which is bad for an XL.

B: Dump the LRM. I personally don't like LRM's in anything less than 30. Just to much AMS and other things out there that limits it effectiveness, and this is from someone who fully understands LRM warfare. I would suggest either a double streak pack, or a bunch of SRM's to stay in practice for when they stop sucking large balls. I love the Guass in the arm, keep it. Put 1, 2, or even 3 longer range energy weapons in the energy arm. You see from mine I mix 1 ERPPC with 2MLs to maximize heat efficiency, 3 Large Lasers works very well as well, but takes up enough tonnage you have to drop the SSRM's and some JJ's.

Have fun!

I'm not too big a fan of Gauss. Can it mount an AC 20?

It can not due to lacking critslots in the right arm. Gauss is the best option actually, or two ac 5.

nope, only 733c highlander can mount ac20/dual uac5/ lbx10&ac5

stock its fine although i do recommend putting the guass ammo n the same limb as the guass itself

just noticed with the stock set-up moving to a std engine makes room for endo-steel

And the STD Engine eats up the free'd weight through endo. I am fine with a XL in it.

Trust me, having the Gauss in your arm greatly enhances the survivability of the weapon. In 300 games I have maybe lost the gauss 10 times. People usually are popping your left torso chasing an XL engine and to remove the other 90% of your weapons.

Guess I just have had bad experience with it in my Atlas. 99% of all the shots go towards the Right Torso, eh.....

Yeah, I don't run a gauss in most of my Atlas builds because of that, however on the arm it is much easier to protect.

Question: Why do you have Artemis on that build...?

Because I built the chassis, engine combo to support 4 different lay outs. The only thing that needs to be changed is the amount of jump jets, gauss ammo, and DHS. One of them uses SRM's, you know in case they don't suck. Once you've paid to put artemis on a mech it's silly to take it off.

The Heavy Metal just went on a "30% off"-sale!

I am now a proud owner of the Iron Maiden, my own Heavy Metal!

Due to the sale on Highlander, I've set me up the standard 732, which has similar hardpoint layout (difference being the lasers in the torso instead of arm). If I like it, I'll get the Heavy Metal and another Highlander. I had a blast in the Stalkers (and Misery), looks like Assaults are more my playing style. Been running around in a Jager the last days, but not getting my big bang experience like with Assaults.
