Notch, this is not a democracy, not everyone's opinion is considered equal... I'm not saying I have some magic insight into the minds of the developers letting me know who they do and do listen to, I'm simply trying to illustrate a fact that some players know far more about this game than others...
Those who have played for months, have thousands and thousands of matches under their belt AND play within high end competitive groups will almost ALWAYS have a better grasp at the general state of game play balance than a player who pugs a few times a week. This is not about equality of opinion, it's about bettering the game... Like I stated, I'd rather take advice from someone who actually knows wtf they are talking about.
How do you know they know what they are talking about? A lot of them have their high Elo from playing in groups against PUGS. Many haven't ever tried anything other than the FotM because that's all they need to win.
I'm not under the illusion that everyone an contribute equally to a balance decision. I just wish these threads didn't have to start with saying how great the player is and how all the other great players they talk to all could fix the game with 5 minutes access to the code. These folks often accuse the devs of being stubborn and not open to change, then they publish their ideas to fix the game and defend them like a cornered rat and refuse to budge.
The constant blather of how they are the last best and only hope for MWO gets old, apparently not just with me. Perhaps preface ideas with a little humility instead of elitism and maybe these threads wouldn't go downhill so fast. It seems horn tooting is more important than fixing in some people's posting. Of course the chicken little sky is falling hyperbole is not helpful either, but it seems ingrained in these folks. You can't just note a problem, you have to say if it's not fixed you and all your competitive friends will leave.
That's the reason in my opinion these threads from on high deteriorate. It's not just the message, it's how you package the message. A lesson for PGI as well.
