Hi fellow light pilots. I was just wondering how you survive the 45+ point alphas that are rampant these days. Keep on getting one shotted and I realize you vets must have some secret that prevents this from happening. Please share.

So same as for medium and heavy mechs, just hide for the entire match?

Here's a couple I thought of:

When running away, it's normal to try to zig zag side-to-side. I'd add, if you are near any sort of incline and do that maneuver on it, you also are going up and down as well.

Always use seismic and peek around corners before running around.

If you're expecting a hit, roll damage. It will all be one big hit so it's not spreading the damage, per se, but you may lose and arm rather than be one shotted.

Tried this. PPCWarrior don't miss much.

Everyone has seismic, not just me. And PPCWarriors can afford to just sit there waiting not being on seismic.

Uh... as you say you can't roll alpha strike damage. Hence the thread.

Anyone have some actually useful ideas?

He meant "roll damage" as in to rotate your body around. It's better to lose an Arm than take 45pts to the CT.

Tip 2: try sneaking around (this means more than 400 meters away from where you think* the enemy is) and hit them in the back.

*It is preferred that you know where the enemy is but guessing is okay aslong as you dont guess wrong and end up next to a ppc stalker.

Tip 3: never EVER stand still. Run sideways when scouting a ridge, NEVER walk up a ridge, stop, then hit reverse and back down again - since this WILL get you killed.

Tip 4: expect EVERYONE to have seismic - that way if the enemy doesnt you will only get pleasently surprised instead of being dead.

Suppose you're a raven with a tiny arm and an XL engine. What now?

Few tips from PPCWarrior:
1) Do NOT stand still. Ever. Even if you think it's safe.
2) Do not run in straight lines. Do some zig-zag. Use terrain irregularities so you move not only in horizontal plane but vertically too.
3) Do not make high jumps. JJs don't have thrust vectoring, so your trajectory is pre-determined once you in the air. Good PPCWarrior will not miss you.
4) Do not make regular circles around your prey. Change speed and direction of your movement chaotically.
5) Move in groups. That 0.5 sec PPCWarrior will spend on decision whom to shoot first might save you all. If PPCWarrior went far from his mates, you can swarm him.

Ha tiny. Ravens are just there after spiders in light durability and I've seen spiders tank better than Atlai.

Love the way the OP "asks for advice" then snaps at anyone trying to help. If you just wanted to post a whine thread about PPC boats and high alphas, there are plenty of threads for that already.

Even better than "running in a serpentine fashion": go vote on my poll to get hardpoint sizes implemented. Devs even said they're thinking about it. The thread includes a discussion of what exactly this means, but the long and short is that heavy weapons, like PPCs, would be restricted to designated large/heavy hardpoints.

So far the only valid advice I've seen is "hide." Any rebuttal?

use a different mech....know this sucks but lights are fragile and if you don't like getting 1 shotted, your only option is to upgrade. Lights are not supposed to be able to take a lot of damage and while ppc boating is pretty prevalent now a days, until they do something to make people play differently, expect everyone else on the other team to have PPC's. Then expect atleast 1 of them to be a good enough shot to hit you. If your in a light, your only option at that point is to hide. go cap, spot for friends. Once the battle starts, you should be able to run in and take some shots but you can't hang around like you used too when lights were almost unhittable.

Seriously, if your asking what people in lights do to stay alive, its just that. they cap, spot and hide until the battle is well underway, then they get their shots in. Getting into the fight too soon is a good way to get dead. I'm betting that once they make a few tweeks to the heat or the hardpoints, things will get better...atleast for you lights but then people will just start whining about lights being op or missiles being op or whatever else being op.

good luck on your light festivities though.

There is nothing you can do. You can run, you can hide, you can twist, you can turn. Sadly it only takes one of those pinpoint alphas to take you out, and then you're done. So I guess the answer is don't get hit? I dunno.

seismic (naturally)
adv. sensor range
BAP

on every light I have.

stay at range. True PPCwarriors can still hit you, but it'll be a challenge. Past medium range the tryhards will whiff it every time. And when that happens, congratulations, you've just cost the other side a valuable bundle of dmg points that could've been properly pointed at your heavies.
But seismic is not your goto, if something pings on seismic, add distance tout de suite, and frankly, the tooter the sweeter.

do you want actual advice? or agreement?

the game sucks. it's partly the developers fault for being totally clueless of what they're doing.

but mostly is the fault of those players who say it's "effective" cause they can't play with lasers, they think lasers are ineffective cause they don't insta-gib you. like this is quake or something stupid like that.
if you're playing to insta kill on this game you just haven't figured out what this game is about yet.

now for actual advice:

youre on a light mech... get behind them, i have seen jagers not being able to turn around and face the light mech on their back, it happens to me when i pilot my awesome some of the time.

for the stalker it's even harder! they can't turn worth ****
what you want to do to the stalker instead is shoot his arm off, this will drop 2 ppc off his build!

for the 4 ppc quickdraw you could write a letter with expletives to PGI.
or you could shoot his leg

Make sure you go at least 125kph. And get CLOSE to them. Those big mechs turn like a schoolbus, if you are close and moving perpendicular to them they wont be able to hit you, just make sure you dont run into something that makes you stop :)

also when in doubt, use the jump jets, elevation also makes it harder for them to target you.
