I would like to mention the Code of Conduct states that Users aren't supposed to use the forums to discuss specific acts of Moderation, but are encouraged to contact support@mwomercs.com or a member of the Moderation Team if you do have any questions or concerns regarding specific acts of Moderation.

hey man that doesn't deal with the topic of the thread ^^^^ ;)

one last thing about phracts, i recommend taking off cockpit armor over legs and such (my phracts ran 8 cockpit armor, 416 in total) also just wanted to say i feel as though using srm6s on the 2x is fine since the gap between salvos is so small AND it makes Artemis somewhat unneeded

and again, i say brawl with phracts, i feel as though that's what their AMAZING cockpit designs (you cant deny they have one of the best cockpits in the game) and arms (not sideways turrets like a certain feline and German looking word.... (jager&catapult)) lend them towards, the rest is up to you Ordate, make us proud!!!!! ps: gotten anywhere yet??

maybe a little more then one last thing :D

I'm serious. This is the first set of mechs that I have tried where I just get rolled constantly.
These are my 3 builds:

Just remove the ammo from the torso's and this build should be viable. You'll have to play with a little bit of tact on the open maps because the long range nature of the meta can have you pinned down for a while, you just have to remain patient and wait for an opportunity to present itself. Wait for the opportunity to come to you, don't try to force it.

Im going to rehash some information that was brought up earlier. There is too big of a mix of ranges here, so lets narrow it down. What role do you want your mech to fulfill? Long range? Close and personal? To make effective use of the Pulse you are going to require for your enemy to be close.... However there is an issue. This Gauss rifle in the torso is very fragile. The Gauss will pop well before the engine does, and once that thing goes your dead. My 3D runs the Gauss on the arm, if I do lose it I get just a little bit of internal damage on the torso and Im still running around. This also brings me to the greatest strength of the Cataphract 3D: The energy hard points in the torso are very high on the mech. This means that you can expose very little of your self when you shoot. Shoot what you say? PPCS ;). This is one of the very few mechs that I run arm lock on. Jump sniping is not a difficult thing to do once you get the hang of it. Once you can time the release of the JJ's and shoot you will be a terror on the battlefield. I do think that 3x PPCs are extremely viable, with a big engine and plenty of heat sinks. Gauss and 2 PPCs is the main stream right now however.

My KDR is less then one in these. My WLR are less then 1 in these. As opposed to my quickderps which have much greater then 1 ratios. I am doing something fundamentally wrong. But can't figure out what it is. Does anyone have any advice beyond the basics? And just a note, not thrilled with advice slap on 2 ppcs and a gauss.

Just a not, the 4x don't remember exactly where I stuck the ammo but it isnt all sitting in cts.

The 4X is a terrible platform Imho. I only used it to master out my 3D lol. So I'm afraid I cant lend any assistance on this mech outside of what was already brought up earlier in the thread. Again just take the ammo out of the torso, I mean if there is absolutely no other place to put it and for some reason you have to place it in the torsos & you are running a Standard engine look @ case.

Good luck and keep your head down :D

1 Gauss + 2 PPCs + Optional two small/med lasers = Perfect.
2 Gauss + 1 PPC = Alpha nerf, LOL?

All I wanted to say is that I love phracts. By far my favourite mech in the entire game. Simply because it's a bulldog.

I've been running this CTF-1X and having fun, and doing pretty well too. The meta game changes seem to have made the build viable for me.
Thing is though, the AC ammo is very limited, sticking in an XL like so: CTF-1X with XL would make it faster and have more ammo.
Is Xl worth it in a phract?

I run a nearly identical build in my 3d with an XL340 and I find the extra speed really makes a difference. With speed tweak your runing at 86kph, very effective flanker!

These days? You don't play a Phract nearly as well in sniperfest. The reason is its low weapons get torn up by poptarts and high-rider sniper mechs like the Blackjack, Jagermech, and Stalker.

Phracts have been neutered by PGI's bad game design decisions.

If you want a serious pain in the butt sniper without the XL torsosploders try a muromets with a standart 255, 2 er-LL and 1 gauss with 4 tons and an ams+1ton. DHS and Endo needed though.
I've learned my lesson with the low hanging weapon arms and went away from XL because of that, the only way to survive with a Phract for me is to be able to brawl if needed to force them into your gunarc.

The Phract does have 2, high mounted energy slots on it's side torso, though. They are ideal for ether PPCs or large lasers. True, it's harder to bring it's arm mounted weapons and torso mount ballistic to bare with out exposing too much of yourself but you can actually make a fairly balanced build with a phract.

Something like this can work well at both a longer and closer range thanks to it selection of weapons. You can brawl with the medium lasers and AC10 and use the large lasers at range. With proper firing discipline and maneuvering to make use of cover you can even minimize your own exposure while retaliating with your large lasers.

This is the 4G's big, bad cousin and basically outperforms the hunchback in everyway. In terms of having a brawler, once you get in range it can tear things up...

I was running 2 ppc, gauss in my x1 for a while. Effective and boring. The ac10 build is, you know, fun.
I've noticed a marked reduction on boring snipers since the heat patch. Hope it lasts.

Maybe I'll try the xl, perhaps with xl320 so I can squeeze in another heatsink. Xls are just so expensive...

If you want to run the first build I'd drop a heatsink (puts your cooling efficiency at 41%) an add another ton of AC10 ammo.

XL: It can be worth it, but in my opinion it depends on the role you're playing. If you're looking to brawl or stay just outside of it I'd stay away from an XL. If you're more mid-long range or fire support (typically 3Ds, Ilyas, some 4x) an XL should be fine. My Ilya (medium range) with an XL dies most often from CT damage, most people seem to aim for the center of mass. My 1x and 4x (just outside of the brawl) with standard engines actually seem to take more side torso damage than my Ilya.

In my view generally the phracts, if not fitted out to be sniping only, are team mechs. Alone out in the field they are a death sentence to their pilot because of the vulnerable torso. But when teamed up with other heavies or assaults, that's when the phract becomes a real beast.

My favorites being the 2X and the IM. I love the 2X for it's versatility. Ususally I like to make the left side the LRM side with 2 LRM 15 + Artemis in the Arm and a Tag on the side Torso. While I use the right side for some heavy close range punch using a set of LBX and ML or just PPCs/LLs. My new favorite IM build is 3 LBX10 + 3 ML with XL 280 and 4T of Ammo. But on that you gotta be smart and force the enemy into close quarters for the LBX to become effective. Also the LBX is just awesome at killing light mech legs. Just aim their general direction ;-).

LRM and AC5 boats can get away with it as it drains from there first (if the rest is in the legs).
