On topic,
The cheese builds hurt the game the most. PPC stalkers are annyoying, BUt AC40 Jagers take the cake IMO. It's a Jager. you should be able to duel it, you shouldnt have to run or do evasive manuevers or call for team help in an Atlas because a Jager came over the hill. At least a stalker is a known, high powered assault mech. If the pointy end is looking at you, you should move. But a Jager is a mid weight heavy, and is likely using an XL on top of it.
Honestly, the first thing they have to fix is hit detection. The cheese builds excel so far beyond other loadouts because the cheese builds have higher reliability to hit detect built in. It is far better to have huge dmg hit for 100% dmg most of the time then to have mediocre dmg hit all the time. Thats why LRM, SRM, MG, lasers all look second best, even in configurations that should outrange, out DPS, and even out dmg the AC40 jagers or PPC/gauss boats. They arent doing the dmg they should be doing. At least not reliably enough.

I play a lot of games on Xbox. I always have my mic and headset, but mic is usually off unless someone is saying something useful. I get to mute people that need muting.
Sometimes I just call stuff out even though nobody else is showing a mic in. Also sometimes, that causes someone with half a brain to plug in a mic and join in.
I've met some good Friends playing games on Xbox with voice this way... and I have muted maybe 30x+ as many people.
AC40 jaegers are getting out of control like roaches recently. Just had a match with 3 on each side.. and the other side ad some kind of 4 AC5 Jaeger too... Which I Applaud, for as long as he lasted... I think he was 2nd kill for one of our AC40s.
I tend to worry about Awesomes I see on the field, especially if there is not a trial one currently listed. They tend to be packing very good pilots.
Same is true of any oddball mech (non stalker, atlas, highlander, k2, phract, or jenner) that isn't a trial.

Homeless Bill, you've got a pretty steady hand tracking those laser shots, and watching you shade your center torso was nice. You were rarely straight-up cored without having at least one shoulders wrecked first.
For all that we've complained about pin-point alpha damage, maybe the simple solution is two-fold:
1.) Decrease PPC projectile speed. This will have two effects:
a.) Shooters must lead the target more. If the target is moving laterally, they might need to aim so far ahead and their crosshairs aim into empty space, losing convergence and thus the alpha strike will not be pin-point.
b.) Targets being shot at have a split second more to defensively twist and take the hit on an arm or side torso.
2.) Scale *down* the size of most mechs. Many mechs are bigger than they are canonically supposed to be, anyway. Shrinking the profile will help because it also forces shooters to lead the target more, they won't be able to get the crosshairs onto the target. If they don't lead the shot, and merely paint a target moving laterally, it should miss entirely. This also makes it harder to pin-point specific panels for destruction.
At the moment PPC projectiles being 2000 meters/sec means that at the usual ranges of about 600 to 800 meters sniping, you've got less than 400 milliseconds to react. It takes roughly half a second to twist the Awesome's torso through 90 degrees to block shots with the arms. Even if you had instantaneous reflexes, it's almost not fast enough to block. Slowing the PPC projectile down to, say, 1200 meters/sec means you'll have 500 to 700 milliseconds to react to a projectile that's been fired. Just long enough to complete the full 90 degree twist.
Maybe also give mechs a slightly faster torso twist, and better acceleration. In theory, because mechs have legs instead of wheels, a mech should be able to crouch and get a very high burst of acceleration (think of an athlete lowering their center of gravity and flexing their legs for a sudden lunge or change of direction). PGI has indicated that a crouch ability is supposed to be coming, it'd be nice to pair that with the ability to have a burst of acceleration for 2 or 3 strides. That acceleration can't be sustained, but it'd be a nice move to throw someone's aim off.... even if you get hit, maybe they don't hit the panel they were aiming for.
