I get the frustration, but one has nothing to do with the other. I also generally respect, even if I don't always agree with your posts, so this is not a personal attack on you.

The degree of hyperbole in your comment is nuts, especially since there ever has been any pay to play aspect. So to post it the way you did, was such a gross exaggeration as to have no basis in anything remotely factual, and basically is just alarmist.

It IS a perfectly sound business move, that in no way impacts the wallets of ANYONE who doesn't want to buy it. In fact the only way they could have made a SMARTER move would be to have them at a 25% discount to convince the fence sitters, because believe it or not, agree with it or not, there are and have been for every single chassis, those who buy them with MC when they first come out. (I might not see the point, but in reality I have spent more on a single night for a bad date and a bad movie. So at least with these you get hopefully a few more hours of enjoyment)

So to go Chicken Little and scream the "Sky is falling" and make some hugely unrelated comparison, is just, in a word, kinda dumb.

Sorry, dude. (And this is coming from someone who has made dumb statements, overreacted and just gotten things wrong himself)

Well, like I said "I wouldn't mind any of this if they made some actual progress on the game.". And there has already been talk of MC to startup mech crops and MC private matches so that would be P2P. Also it's annoying but this is actually ok, IMO.(I was just annoyed). What bothers me are the phoenix packages. 3 month is early is way too much. And not allowing to choose your mech is even more cunty.

(EDIT: Servers are LIVE)

No that's not the name of a new breakfast meal, though it is good news! It means the Victor VTR-9K, VTR-9B, VTR-9S are available now for purchase!

NOTE: Until the 16th of July, these regular Victor variants are in the Hero Chassis list in Mechlab

That's right, starting today at 10am PST (after the servers come back up) you can buy the standard variants of the Victor for , with available beginning next week on the 16th. Since this is being released early, what does that mean?

You CAN:
  • Buy cockpit items for them
  • Level them with XP/GXP
  • Buy/equip modules
  • Customize the colours
  • Name them
  • Give them a good home
You CANNOT:
  • Change from the default pattern (yet)
(This will be available for you to do, however, on the 16th.)

So if you've been waiting on those standard Victors, here's your moment of Victory! Eh? Eh?

See you on the battlefield,
The MechWarrior Online Team

We did not have ANY communication about the patch in one week, without even saying sorry for it and the only thing we hear from you is an another moneygrab?
Star Citizen, here I come.

Will I buy it? No. Am I glad people will buy it? Yes, I am. Just because I don't want to invest any more money in this game does not mean I wish it to fail, by no means I don't.

Not really. Not entire industry anyway. There are plenty of online games that treat their customers with respect. Shame MWO isn't one of them.

So this is a little reading between the lines, but apparently we're getting the next patch on the 16th huh? Have they said that before? I fully expected the next one to be on the 23rd.

Again: I have no problems with making money and/or sales, but I have a problem with a crowdfunding game that is programed by a team of devs that don't hold promises, like the monthly creative director updates.

I play with mechs I've purchased for in-game money only. The game isn't broken for me in any way. I own only 1 mech that I've purchased with MC (not counting my Founder's mech), and I got it on sale. I rarely fly it, yet commonly take down Miserys and Flames and Pretty Babys. I fail to see the outrage. So far, this game handles P2W extremely well as compared to games like Blacklight: Retribution. At least, In My Worthless Opinion

At the very least, you are going to get the rest of the Victors. It is probably safe to say there will probably be more to it than that.

I love how people on MWO are QQing about this when Early Bird Specials have been a part of Combat Arms' (and all its' effing ripoffs) marketing strategy for years. The difference between combat arms and this game?

It's not ptw, this game isnt a peice of ****, the new stuff is balanced, and the devs care. Oh, and there aren't hackers on every server. Combat Arms went nearly a decade w/o any of those things (but with the hackers :/), so imagine where MWO could go. (PS I know that, once again, after nearly a decade CA is going outta business. That being said, they ignored thier fanbase entirely the past year which is why.)

Early Bird Specials aren't going to destroy MWO, spoiled brats thinking they should get everything because they spent over $100 with thier HARD-EARNED MONEY OH MY GOSH!! are going to ruin MWO.
As a consumer, you're risking a small amount of your paycheck. As devs, they are risking everything. Thier livelihoods, thier futures, thier time, thier money, and with some, thier relationships (because some of these people care more about the greedy-********-known-as-their-playerbase than coming home every night to dinner. Because they want this game to be the best they can make it.)!

To all the whiners, just start a flame thread until it gets closed and vent your misguided, idiotic, greedy complaints about the new Victor there. Complain about how the Victor's arm placement is OP or something too, while you're at it.

Now about my opinion on this? Yeah, I hope the cooler-looking Victor model is used, but it won't be the end of the world if it isn't. I've lurked through the horrors of SARNA, so I know what the original mechs looked like. Every single one of the mechs in this game is a masterpeice in comparison to the previous mech renderings. The Victor looks like a great fire support mech, and I'm glad they're adding it via Early Bird. Only thing they need to change next time they do Early Bird is adding a 25% discount. That's what Combat Arms did, and every month they hauled in the money.

I hope the best for this game, and they better iron out the balance issues/community questions fast before the most spooked rats start leaving this slightly damaged ship. Otherwise, see Domino Effect :C Which I doubt we will see, but might as well put the pre-emptive warning there.

ADDENDUM: Thought I'd also mention that it's only one week into July, and the Devs have promised/are working on 20 different things at once this summer. Pheonix, monthly mechs, CW, Factions, maps, etc. etc.

I've seen the most dedicated dev teams have to go nearly a month w/o saying anything when they usually come out with weekly stuff, simply because it was a busy month for them. Everyone should expect more surprises and more excitement the longer they have to wait for info from the Devs. Calm down guys, they have till the 23rd to let us all know what's going on with the game this month. Personally, Im the most pumped about this game and PAYDAY 2, but you dont see me checking the forums every hour. People need to learn patience, something the tech generation caused people to forget...

It does not matter if it is P2W, If it alienates the players and makes the long term supporters of the game leave, the game will inevitably fail.

I'm actually one of the longest standing supporters of the game. I saw it and chuckled at the creativity of their marketing and moved on. I don't feel alienated I don't mind waiting a week to buy the Victor for C-bills.

If you feel so entitled as a supporter that waiting a week to access something for free that others have to pay for to get early access, makes you rage quit, I feel sorry for you.

Woah what an ugly money grabing attempt.
PGI fire your Marketing Guy, do you really thing your fans are going to not see this in a negative way?

I've been defending you left and right, but this... Is bad.

I'm utterly disgusted.

Greetings from Germany. God this is going to backfire...

Its still in beta. Do you know any other game that does scam sales like this in beta stage? Imagine how bad its gonna be when they make official launch. Once greedy they will only get greedier.

So that's why people are fat. Huh. Who would have thought that it's a humans responsibility to take care of themself and make their own judgement. Go to a AA meeting if you lack self control. Don't blame product.

Then don't.

But it makes good business sense.

Normally I would agree with you. It makes wonderful marketing sense.

But something else makes sense also: If you don't have people playing the game to buy the product, why would they be motivated to the buy the product early in the first place?

Fix the broken mechanics, get people back in the seats of mechs... THEN dangle carrots to entice them to spend. You'd have a much bigger market share and thus bigger revenues as a result.

PGI, why not also make them available for Premium Members early? It's really kind of a slight to not allow them to paying members.
