I have made a few purchases in the last few hours, packs and MC, i used the VISA option and received receipts - however none of my purchases have registered.
I am starting to become very worried
Is this a normal thing to happen?

If not, it does seem rather odd if you don't. I would contact support and provide them with your receipts as proof. Also, from what page did you do it from? The MWO main page or your profile page? Not sure if that makes a difference but I feel better doing it from my profile page so that I know that I'm logged into my account.
You can also go to your profile and look in your pre-order tab to see if your package is in there too.
