Not sure if this has been already posted on here before but I had an idea the other day while chatting with a mate about PPC boats on how you could effectively balance them without touching or altering the current dmg/heat/cooldown/range of any weapons in game now.

2 methods both similar but with different effects both revolve around the idea of a cap on each individual hard point on the mech, a tonnage cap such as my CTF 1X has 5 energy hardpoints to stop anyone from simply cheesing it up with 4-5 PPCs just apply a tonnage cap of 7 ton to the torso hardpoints and 5/2/1 tonnage to the arms whatever is required you could even allow say 2 energy hardpoints in the arm both have a cap of 5 ton so I could either combine the 2 caps and place a PPC or simply install 2 LL instead.

The other method similar could work off of a weapon class system rather then tonnage where all the weapons in the game could be labelled as light/med/heavy/siege or something similar so you could base the cap on the hard point as a damage/range limitation rather then a weight.

This not only removes boating but would also further diversify the current variants even more so and yet still allow players to build their mech freely.

thanks for reading ;)

This is the "Gameplay Balance" forum. What do you expect to find in the "Gameplay Balance" forum, but a forum discussing Gameplay Balance?

They could post in one of the other countless Balance ones instead of making a new thread...Just an idea...

=D I love it when I don't even have to shamelessly promote my solution.

Edit: From the Rebuttals II section...
Spoiler

Basically, you either roll with hardpoint restrictions and tapdance around the 'mechs that aren't limited enough or you fix the real problem. I vote fixing the real problem.
