PPC's are in favor because they are always useful. Any match in this ridiculously small map pool a player can benefit from having PPC's.
This is the problem, your maps are the problem.
Sorry but the incredibly irritating, get stuck on a stone, climbing issue every mech now has to deal with only makes it worse.
Everybody is going to bring a gun to the knife fight in the canyon.
And seriously if you're trying to make it more "realistic" why the hell would the apex of warfare have legs?
*SPOILER* because it makes movement on uneven surfaces more effective!
This is unbelievably annoying in an assault, and nothing will get you killed faster in a light.
Solution? Triple the map pool.
Add selectable categories for maps that promote, through architecture, certain weapon configurations.
How about another? MAKE DEATHMATCH ALREADY..
Come on, the reason everybody goes to the same spot is because if they don't, a cap will ensue. And if i'm in a big slow mech trying to get back to base to kill the little ******* i better have something that can hit him before we lose.
Enter the PPC AKA Swiss Army Knife.
If I'm slow I better be able to hit something because to play the assault game I can't be losing to one little mech, and I need to do damage, and a lot of it. Gimmie the CASH!!!
If I don't know where the enemy will be, and don't have to worry about which way I go to defend some stupid oil derrick. I might want to play a game where i can react in close quarters.
Couple that with better map designs, and at least a preference for types of maps.
BAM Problem Solved
Stop making the game irritating, making a mech lab pointless, keeping the game stale, stagnant, and repetitive, while catering to some of the most idiotic, crybaby players i have ever seen..
Which leads me to my next point.
Unit Roles
A Jenner that stands still, out in the open, deserves to die. Sorry little guy, but in a light: speed is life. KEEP MOVING! and don't be so predictable.. You do this to yourself.
Its not like there weren't PPC Snipers in a previous game. Didn't learn your lesson the first 100 times? By all means keep sticking that penny in the outlet. One way or another a brawl will happen. just wait your turn.
But no! Heavens no!! PPC's are the problem!! NERF THEM!!!! actually wait, NERF EVERYTHING!
Make the override button even more useless, and watch the little popcorn kernels (light mechs) blow up of their own accord.
These roles are important right? Oh they are? Oh ok then don't make assaults literally just bigger versions of smaller mechs...
I know you guys are trying to make the game more dynamic, but I will be the bad guy here. you're just making it a pain in the ***.
I am really looking at that project phoenix, and I've already spent A LOT, too much really, on this game, but if this is what I have to look forward to.. A decent into a nerf fest.. I'm not so sure about it anymore.
P.S.
Also its complete bull that the Victor "came out early". If you want more people to actually buy standard mechs, give them a 10% C-Bill Bonus. You get what you pay for with the hero, that extra 20%, a sweet paint job, and something only some bigshot would do to his issued mech, special hardpoints.
P.P.S.
SRM'S, PPC's or ANY weapon for that matter should not be balanced on one mech's build. Because it makes them useless, better spent tonnage on something else for every other mech.
Just as we have specialty vehicles, Hyper-cars and 4X4's, there should be an advantage to a variant, weight class, or weapon system.
But the most important part is to remember that that hyper-car ain't going anywhere off road. But at the same time it will still go really fast on the track.
If you want to beat it, play in the dirt.
Don't whine and complain and make regulations to make them all inline 4's so you don't have to think too hard.
TLDR
Flammers suck!!!!! Up the damage to 20 and the heat to zero!!

PPC heat needs to be reverted to canon levels. Not this farcical math equation based on the number you are firing. It has no basis in reality.

The only way to truely fix the issues is to completely tear it down and make certain the various systems work as they are put in again, on a good base. This of course will never happen, because that would mean what we, the players, have known for a year now. The devs are wrong. The game is a pile of 'fixes', nothing more, and it will only grow worse as they add to it.

Boating homogeneous weapons and alpha-ing with them is fun. Death by a thousand cuts, using a Frankenstein mix of heterogeneous weapons is not. But this is just my opinion. And there are certainly people who think differently and want to move the game in that direction. Penalizing those of us who prefer to play more homogeneous builds with an arbitrary heat penalty does just that. I'm trying to keep an open mind about the new heat penalty but the concept really rankles me and I suspect its implementation is going to suck the joy out of this game.
The new movement physics need to be dialed back significantly too. The concept is at least tolerable (unlike the arbitrary heat penalty) but the current implementation is pretty severe. The frustration of trying to pilot a heavy or assault mech around now has certainly made the game less fun, at least in my opinion.

I disagree.
You don't balance by artificially limiting options. All this does is create resentment, and reduce diversity.
If you balance through indirect means, then it becomes a choice for the user, rather than a restriction. Players live for that sort of min/max dynamic.

This is a much better thought out post on a seemingly related subject:

It does work that way if you fire them every 10 seconds like in TT.
