I know there are a hundred posts on it.
I run nvidia 580m's in SLI, (I KNOW SLI IS NOT SUPPORTED)
when the in game timer hits around 10-8 minutes left in match, the FPS drops to around 4, from a solid 50+
If I manage to live long enough, the FPS does come back up, but its unclear as to how often that happens as I don't often make it out.
I have noticed twice that an in game power down will help bring the fps back up, but those instances might have been circumstantial as I cannot repeat it often enough to say that it is a given % useful

This is not after X amount of matches, and does not get fixed with a reboot of the game. This seems to be pretty darn random and happens occasionally on the first match of a set or sixteenth. and anywhere in between. I don't think it is some magic game number, I think it is an overall issue with the graphics cards.
I can play at any graphics settings level and still will get the problem.

**EDIT** When the cards are not in SLI configuration I still have the problem (didn't include this in the original text)

It's possibly too high a load or overheating...

Especially when you have to consider that laptops throttle often when they reach a certain temp. Consider opening it up (within reason) and try to blow out dust from the vents.

If it's not a dust issue, consider configuring the video card and Windows for max performance instead of max power saving.

She is nice and clean. I clean her out once a month with a compressor. It is a laptop, but it is more a desktop replacement considering it weighs about 30 lbs B)

It does come off as heat related, or at least it seems. Power settings are all set to max and active cooling is off. The cards are set to run at 100% fan speed. I would be weary to think that it is a heat throttle issue, as it doesn't happen in all games, just every few. It doesn't matter if there are 10 'mechs on screen or if I am burning through a flat-land alone, just drop. Happens even on all low settings.

This only came about a few patches ago.

Well, it depends on the CPU used. The game is very CPU driven after all... so... you may want to look into tracking your CPU usage and see if any sort of Turbo Boost for the CPU is being applied or disabled.

You could try downloading MSI afterburner, Great software for checking temp's and controlling fan speed. Also check your cpu temp, this game is heavy on the cpu usage and could cause a similar problem. you might need to re-seat the cooler.

I have thought about the MSI deal, My cards are not MSI, so I figured they wouldn't work, but if it is card level it should.

The CPU is not under load by any means, Maybe 20% usage on cores 0, 1 and 5
(it's not a low level system)

And I peak out on ram at about 4 gigs (out of 32) with other junk running in the background.

I will try the MSI install after work today and give their monitoring a shot. it may be as simple as a heat issue, though the symptoms are suggesting something else.

  • What is your FPS before the issue occurs?
  • Are you playing in Full Screen or one of the window modes?
  • Run Task manager, with an eye on System Idle Process. Take note of about where it sets while in game. Now when FPS takes a dive check its percentage right then. If this happens there is a/some programs starting up that is hogging cpu resources, literally choking everything else. For many with this issue it has been Windows Media Player Network Sharing program. Not always but usually the primary culprit. It can be disabled.
  • Since no other system specs than the m580s, if your laptop/CPU is Turbo Boost (single core OC) enabled then when the system thinks it would benefit from a boost in CPU speed. When TB kicks in then only 1 core speed is increased, which also increases its heat. Of course, what will happen is that if the heat threshold is reached the overall CPU speed is throttled to low power minimum to give it time to cool down.
  • This is the link I provide others but instead of using the 99%, use 98% or 97% for the power management. If this resolves the issue you are seeing, you will be the 153rd laptop user to acknowledge it.

I can confirm this, while playing the game it freezes and the game is unplayable.
Framerate is always at 60FPS, and it drops to 6FPS, maybe 10FPS.
When it happens I go to options and change the performance to medium, and this helps mostly, but when in the middle of a brawl it's very frustating...
This is not something caused by my PC or anything, it is a bug or something since I can see in the logfile al kinds of errors also mentioned by others.
Very annoying bug that needs to be addressed and must be a priority.

Long and short of it a year later (seemingly) it was a hardware problem.

Looks like the SLI bridge in my laptop was loose and causing issues when in game. Oddly enough.

After tightening the SLI bridge back down ( the placement is horrible...) the troubles have stopped.

While the game is CPU driven the CPU i have is a little beefy for the game. Long and short of it it was a hardware error.
