I know. Get rid of 2xRecharge.
It's so funny that all the nerfs seek to block the effects of 2xRecharge, so why not just dump it and stop all the nonsense?

So firing 2 weapons at long range is OP now? 25 is well under the whine of the month, You bet I am a part of it. In fact I was doing this kind of Alpha striking for some 24+ years. Even better My builds should be Heat Neutral by all construction rules of the past. On TT my Atlas would never over heat nor would it in MW 2-4. So what the problem is even by your example of my builds is Convergence not actual Alpha. Stacking multiple weapons on a Targeting computer should make convergence harder to achieve, the damage would spread over more area and the whine can die a ignominious death.
25 alpha is well below the whine of the month and I would say it's not high at all for MWO standards. That actually says something about the MWO standards, since in the original environment the segmented damage system was designed for the biggest single bang was 20 (at this time in the timeline) and that's at less than half the range of your Gauss + PPC. And you had to throw dice and be really lucky to hit the same spot twice in a row with it. And being able to do any kind of damage consistently to same location time after time is probably the biggest thing that breaks the damage system going from tabletop to simulation, so it worries me a bit.

I don't think anyone really answered this question well.
But isn't that was chain fire is for?
Left/Right Arm Lasers, all on group 1. Thus, while your arm redicule is on target, pressing 1 would cause a laser to fire.
Left/Right/Center Torso lassers, all on group 2. Thus, while your torso redicule is on target, pressing 2 would cause a laser to fire.
Left/Right Arm SRMs, all on group 3.
Left/Right Arm SRMs, all on group 4.
All LRMs on group 5. If you have a lockon, fire the next set of LRMs.
This isn't hard to do with a 2 button mouse and keyboard. Left/Right Mouse for group 1/2, and 4 keys on the keyboard for group 3/4/5/6.
Yup, it would work pretty much exactly like chain-.fire does now, except that the chain-fire delay might not be a fixed 0.5 second delay as it is now (which makes a weapon like the AC/2 utterly useless in chain-fire mode, for example).
So if you build your Quad PPC Stalker, you could still just have one weapon group, and when you press the trigger, the first weapon firess, all others go on the "chain cooldown", you wait until that is over and fire the next one. YOu have full control and you don't need any more buttons then you do now. (Personally, if I was building a Quad PPC Stalker, I'd probably have 3 groups, one for all weapons, one for the left sided weapon, and one for the right sided weapon, to avoid shooting weapons into obstacles).
Removing group fire doesn't mean removing weapon groups, it just means removing the ability to fire all the weapons in the group at the exact same time.
The ancient Mechwarrior V trailer is also a god example of a game with no, or at least limited, group fire:

Particularly all those lasers never seem to be fired together.
The Warhammer never fires both PPCs together.

I agree with the OP. I had thought about posting about this, but I was too lazy and the OP already did it much better than I could have done.
However, I'd leave the option of grouping weapons, but they could only be chain-fired, and only one group at a time.
Oh, and make recycle times at least twice what they are now, at 10s per big weapon or close to it. That way, if you want to shoot more, just put more weapons.
