Im Gonna Call Spiders Neo

Just finished a game i took a shot at a perfectly standing still spider (he got caught on a pebble saddly thats not even a joke) lined up with his CT with 2 er ppcs from about 400 meters and the shots went right thru him.... again not kidding nor exagerating.
Even though spiders have the lowest armor i swear they are the most survivable of all the lights itt seems......
but this isnt a QQ just a observation im sure it was proably a lag issue or some other game mechanic quirk.
It does give a nice fear for any possible convergance changes. think about how would you hit a light thats fairly close to you?

what really ****** me off is when i'm standing 60m away from a cataphract, and i shoot him dead in the center torso, and no damage is registered.

I still smile imagining the curses from the Cat pilot as he went down surrounded by assault mechs, his last view of a Spider floating across the screen 20m up.........

I don't always pilot lights.....but when I do, it's usually a Spider. LOL

...and if you can, please actually test new lights before putting them in for once?

ECM Spiders give me the ****s, but they are a legitimate build and I am not complaining.

For me its abolutely not the same with other lights. Sure, they are hard to hit from time to time and they profit from the current hitregistration bug, nut they are a lot easier to kill then Spiders.
If you think that this is only my percetion then ask yourself why you see an incresing amount of Spiders in the game and a decreasing amount of other lights.
Since i see These Problems for Months now, it cant be something new and cant be related to those new bug alone.
I cant count the games anymore where last man standing on enemys team is a Spider and the whole surviving team hunts it. And im talking about a Spider jumping in between them and fighting, not the smart runnaway Spider.

If you say thats a Problem with all lights i say: "Try that in your Commando or Jenner!"

It's definitely true. Spiders were almost dead 2 months ago and now they make up 50-60% of Lights. Had laughable matches like the one where a single spider was running around and absorbing the firepower of a whole team (6 (!) surviving Assaults/Heavies), getting hit by PPCs multiple times and even eating a whole 40 LRM salvo with Artemis while being TAGed by the LRM boat Stalker of mine. It took us 2 minutes to take out that bloody Spider playing hit and run the whole time.

I thought this too, and half way through my post realised it can't be the case because I've shot spiders that were not moving or were moving in such a way that the shot would hit them regardless, and it did no damage.

Spiders need a good pilot to shine, their severely limited dakka means you need to get used to strafing runs wearing an enemy down over time instead of with high alphas.

The spider has no problems GETTING hit. It does have a problem with damage registration.
For example: I'm in my spider 5D with an LL and a med laser equipped, chasing ANOTHER spider 5D. Its a straight run and this spider has not seen me.. so I have a perfect shot into his rear CT.
I fire.
His rear CT lights up...and so does his front CT.
In controlled tests in live (last 2 mechs standing, one being my undamaged spider the other being a larger mech) I've had someone shoot my static (standing still) spider with a single AC5 in my rear CT. I set my rear CT to exactly 5 pnts. One shot should've taken the armor off right?
It did not. The hit registers in the rear but the front and rear armor blink...the rear armor ends in red, the front in yellow.
So there is some sort of glitch that is passing damage to both front and rear and it somehow is 'sharing' the armor points between the two.
The RT/LT have the same problem.
That being said, the spider has no problem with hits registering as a HIT (its just where the armor is deducted from thats the problem). Many people shoot a spider and assume it hit it... but you need to remember host rewind and latency can make you see that you hit the spider with most of the laser beam duration but in reality you did not. You may see your multiple- ballistic/ppc shot hit but in reality, because the spider is so small and fast, only one of the 3~4 ppcs you fired hit it. Aka shoot a spider on its side (arm & shoulder facing you as it travels laterally) and your four balls of lightning streak to meet the spider... only the bottom leftmost ppc blast hits the top shoulder of the spider, the top leftmost ppc blast flies above the head of the spider and the other 2 missed by a fraction and flew past just behind the spider. The convergence on this game is set to be PERFECT convergence only AT the range the aimpoint was pointing at.. so if you lead a spider the convergence will be set to something maybe 1km behind it..the shots dont converge at the spider's range.
OTH, the reason why spiders die in one shot a lot of times is when they are running to or away from the attacker.. convergence at that point is set within ~150m of where the ppc was clicked to fire and the ppc travels very fast so it slams in one spot and obliterates the spider.

^^ THIS!

Since release of the Spider, i'm piloting these tiny Things and i'm very happy with it . I love them all. Even the hated 5V Jumper, which is even my favorite! On masterlevel with lots of modules, BAP and lots of JJ's, you can have some fun with it. I remember the old posts about it: "Spiders are useless, worthless, stupid, ridiculous etc" And now, it's an unbalanced overpowered and unbeatable ÜberMech? Cmon guys!
