Discuss. Anyone find it useful? I was a bit disheartened when I learned it was targettable.

It was one of the coolest things in the late lamented Mechwarrior 5 video of the game that never was.

I am glad it can be shot down, because that at least makes it realistic.

I doubt we'll see many of them once the novelty wears off.

I meant targettable as in they can lock in on it giving away it's position rather than having to visually locate it. I have no issues with it being destructable.

Add that to things you never see next to airstrike and arty.

Artillery and airstrike are still balls. Put it right on 4 people in our base and when I asked how much damage it did after the game they didn't even know they were hit....

And all the proof you need in this game that PGI has no intention to ever reward scouting is that using a UAV gives you no spotting bonuses whatsoever, yet poptarts that shoot it, hey, here's some xp!

Once again, I'm literrally making the rewards for heavies/assaults bigger while I'm losing it.

my -40k c-bills for your bonus xp, YAY redistribution of wealth!

It would have been useful if you could send it in a straight line direction from your mech to the other end of the map and have it scout for you, but since it just hovers over you it's really only useful as an ECM counter. And since they just made BAP counter ECM, there's really no point to it anymore.

It's really good if you can buzz through the enemy team, launch, and take off. You get vision of the entire enemy LRM camp spot for your team to rain in on.

Can you target and hit them with airstrikes and artillery :P?

I'd like them to fly around like options from Gradius...

I found it useful. I'm running around in a Death's Knell with a PPC and Medium Laser. My friends have a few LRMs(unless the one switches up to his Catapult or Stalker) and I find it handy for breaking up clumps of jump snipers. I can typically circle around these type of players, get their backs, launch the UAV, shoot a couple backs with the PPC, and run like crazy while LRMs fly in to annoy the snipers.

The fact that it counters ECM without taking up tonnage or crit slots on my mech adds to it's use. I can zap an ECM Atlas with a ppc, target it, get the missiles flying and then make sure they have a target with the UAV if I can't stick around to keep shooting said Atlas.

Is it "Super Awesome?" no... but it has some uses.

Use a fast light. Run into the enemy blob. Fire your UAV. Escape. Profit!

Yeah - last night with all the LRM boats that have spawned as flavor of the month I equiped them on my lights and would be launching them whenever I got into a mob of enemy mechs.

Need to get my macro working properly on launch to announce to team (that it was launched).

LOVE IT!

I had some fun using it, it works well as described above, on a light scout mech with lrm support. It didn't get shot down once all night.

I use it with my LRM C1. Its great once you get their attention and they start rushing you. Deploy it and run out of LoS and punish 1-2 of them depending on chassis for coming near you.

Currently have a 5.0 win ratio with it equipped.

Except everyone on your team is profitting, not you =P. You get nothing, in fact, you get less than nothing, you get -40k cbills.

You make it sound like "everyone on your team is profiting" is a bad thing.

Hell, 40K worth of pixel "Space Bills" fell on the pixel "floor" in our pixel "barracks" the other night. I didn't even bother to pick them up for fear I might hurt my pixel "back". LOL ;)

It is a bad thing. This game is all about the grind for GXP and cbills. So if you're playing support, you're not "winning" the game, and you're lucky to break even. The only thing rewarded in this game is jumping up and down or standing behind a hill shooting LRMs.

Unless those allies are going to buy your atlas and modules, there is little incentive to using the UAV.

Essentially, in a typical match for me, I scout, TAG, and pop UAV on targets and only engage LRM boats on their own, or lights. My end of match rewards end up being around 50-60k unless I get a streak of kills which push me higher.

My two LRM boat buddies that yell at me to put the UAV up and get target locks, 200k+.

A game even if won, if I die shortly after popping the UAV due to lolstreaks I lose money.

I want to get the seismic module. I'm not getting it anytime soon running lights as scouts. I get into my LRM boat and get easily triple the rewards

OK so Insert launches the UAV, but how do I control it in flight; and how do I see what it sees?

How does UAV target sharing work exactly?

it shouldn't be targettable. like op said, people should have to see it themselves. it should give xp bonuses to whoever launched it for lrm dmg similar to tag/narc bonus.
