ELO is only splitting the players up into too many brackets, and with the 3d person hooey on the way it will become harder and harder to get into a match. ELO is also not preventing 8-0 stomps, Veterans being matched with noobs, or Sync drops vs. pugs.

ELO looks nice on paper, but it does not work when applied.

Yes it does work, we just needed a larger playerbase, which isn't really going to happen till CW comes.

8-0 stomps will always happen, regardless of what they do to try and mitigate that. It is just the kind of game it is, once you lose one mech it is much more likely you are going to lose the match. That is the nature of any game with a large pool of health and one life per round.

It's not perfect, but the more people that play the better it will get.

I'll get matches with players that have no idea what they are doing sometimes, but that is only once in a while. More often im matched with players of my skill level. Hell, sometimes end up dropping with or against them 4 times in a row lol.

I have more balanced games than i do 8-0 games since they started matching ELO, its not perfect because the player base is still small when it goes live hopefully we'll get a bigger playerbase and ELO will then perform better.

As mentioned above ...

8-0 stomps will always happen. If your team splits up at the beginning and you lose one or two without them doing really significant damage in return ... you will probably lose. Most of the 8-0 matches I have been in run that way ... scouts over extend and get blown up ... mediums think it would be cool to flank and runs into a lance on the way ... assault heads for a sniper or lrm support position but gets over run by a flanking lance.

Unless your team stays grouped and uses focused fire when encountering the enemy ... you will likely lose. This happens in many PUG groups ... the only exception is that pre-mades, whether they actually talk to each other or not, tend to stick closer together and keep an eye on their team mates ... so they generally and inherently stay more grouped and focused.

No matchmaker will compensate for all of this since the best solo player will lose if they can't work with a team or if the other folks on the team won't work with them ... which is probably the biggest issue with PUGs ... pre-mades have implicitly agreed to a minimum level of cooperation and coordination while PUGs have not ... many players drop with a solo mindset in a team environment and by doing so are half way to losing.

I wish this was the case for me. I definately see more sweeps than I do balanced matches with ELO.

I cannot imagine if we didn't have ELO....

I mean a 4 man premade could theoretically drop against a totally newb group of 8.... I mean even if we didn't have 4 other players, 8 new people getting used to the game... They wouldn't have a chance.

QFT. I run in groups of various sizes mostly, the difference in competition post ELO is staggering. You used to occasionally run into competent pilots on the other side. Now, it's almost guaranteed.

Elo will never work properly until the game is balanced. There are a ton of "elite" players right now who will suffer as the game shifts from twitch shooter to mech sim, and it is unfortunate, but it is hard to have sympathy for players who gamed the system to make it to the top tier. Now they can grease the wheels with their tears for the rest of us.

I would like MWO to be more sim like the original MW5 concept Agent, but can PGI get there or are they willing to switch the game more to simulation.

I'm glad I'm not in the MG Elo though, something to be thankful for.

Elo doesn't separate players into brackets. Your argument is invalid.

It does give me a better team to play with than before it was implement, althought that is not in every matches, but definitely better :)

I have less 8-0 stomps than I ever had before elo... are they playing the same game I am?

MM only uses ELO as a guideline, not some strict bucket system that is splintering the queue system.

These professional organizations disagree.

For the lazy:

-American Collegiate Football uses the Elo method as a portion of its Bowl Championship Series rating systems.
