Investigation started: For the 30th patch, we are looking at possibly bumping PPC and ERPPC base heat generation. If we do bump the base heat, the heat scale for these weapons will be lowered. This is just an update and not a guarantee that this change will be added to the game.

Let's help Paul in his investigation by showing him how many of you believe PPC's and ERPPC's need an increase on the heat they generate. :)

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. 8 heat, 10 damage to 1 location and 7 tons with a 540m range and shuts down ECM....................................or 7 heat, 9 damage that can be spread across multiple locations and requires 1 second worth of perfect aiming, 5 tons with a 450m range that doesnt shut down Ecm.

Yeah. PPC is superior in every single way. Large lasers are quite good weapons, but the PPC is better in pretty much every situation. those added 2 tons are way worth that investment.

Maybe they need more heat, but maybe it doesn't really matter as much as people would like it to. We'll see.

PPC Dam/Heat ratio: 1.25
Medium Laser Dam/Heat ratio: 1.25

Original stats:
PPC Dam/Heat : 1
Medium Laser Dam/Heat : 1.67

As I've suggested previously, the changes to the heat of both those weapons systems was made prior to HSR, in an environment where the PPC was very unreliable.

Now that the PPC can be reliably used by most players, those stat changes should be reset to their original values.

Increasing heat makes sense. They have twice the firepower AND twice the range of the medium laser but only double the heat. Plus they fire like a ballistic and have the anti-ECM effect. The ERPPC doesn't suffer from the minimum range as well.

Alternatively you could increase the weight or size (slots) of PPCs or ERPPCs. Or you could just give them long recharge times.

PPCs also cost 3 times the crit slots and 7 times the weight.

I am always confused when people bring up stuff like DPS/HPS ratios or things like that. How is that alone a useful benchnmark - you have to consider other stats like weight, crit slots, range, without that, you can't make any meaningful consideration.

We've said this a thousand times by now;

PPC heat 10
ERPPC heat 15

PPC Heat += 1;
PPC Velocity -= 700;

ERPPC Heat += 2;
ERPPC Velocity -= 300;

Considering MWO's heat system, I think restoring them to canon values would simply relegate them completely to the scrap heat again. I think 9 and 13 would be much more reasonable.

Something like this would be good. Cannon values I feel are a bit much for heat, but as they are now its ridiculous. Somewhere in between like this would be a good idea.

ppc likely need more work than heat tweaks, to get back into balance. I would suggest something along the lines of srm splash damage, ie ppcs do 6-7 point damage and splash, or something similar. ac20s could also use that logic.

of course that would also be contingent on splash damage working properly...

ERPPC 11 heat and increase it to 12.

PPC 8 heat and increase it to 9.

Test 2-4 weeks. Adjust again if needed. Repeat.

Guys, wtf! If there is higher heatoutput and lower heat generation for PPCs it will result into a nerf to direct fire support builds and is almost a buff to boater. Is this REALLY what you all want?!

Yes two PPC or ER PPC as it is right now put the the AC 20 to shame. Get the same damage better range no ammo and less crit slots.

And I still prefer the AC20 for brawling. Guess why. Because its a brawling weapon without a min range.

wait so if a ppc boat fires 4 ppcs and they generate 60 heat instead of 40... It's a buff?
Boy please, have your logic checked.

That why I only use ER PCC. Two ER PPC are not that hot 800 ranage and have no min ranage. Why would I ever need a AC 20 with ER PPC as they are now.

Not at all. This heat system has a ridiculous cap level for it with crappy dissipation. Higher heat suits the PPC better as the relative cost to run it is still ridiculously low.

Unlike BT, you aren't required to carry 7 tons of HS with the PPC to use it, so I don't see any reason to skimp on going easy on it.
