Hi MWO Developers, The tournaments seem unfair and are geared towards those people who don't have kids and have way too much free time. I can't play 100 or 200 matches to get top scores in the tournament as I struggle to get 10 or 20 matches played at all. especially, over a 3 day weeks Friday - Sunday. I have to many other things which I must do, but wish to compete in the tournament. It would be helpful to have an extended tournament and only the next 20 - 50 matches count, so that it can't be won by people who just get lucky after playing 300 matches. Also I need more time, like a week or two to be able to get my 50 matches in. I am not saying you can't have 3 day tournaments anymore, but you should have different kinds of tournaments Dad's like me can compete in. Thanks for the consideration!

+1 for extended tournaments, though you'd best be prepared to reap the whirlwind here... Facing tournament builds, kill stealing and people urinating all over the concept of teamwork.

Honestly, it wouldn't change anything. You'll still be playing against guys who play 30+ hours a week.

Even though I am a casual gamer, I can best anyone on a fair playing field. I would put my 4 hours a week up against a 30+ hour player and still expect to win. I have been playing harder FPS games since I was a kid. It just isn't fair from a time standpoint. Not to mention the older crowd has the cash anyways as we all have real jobs. :D

The solo tournaments seem to favor high damage alpha builds. Allows them to kill steal while still giving a lot of damage on the battlefield. Hopefully when team brackets are released (I asked about them in Ask the Devs 41 and got a nonanswer) hopefully it will fix who they favor and also increase duration. They can't expect to have a 4 man tourny go Friday-Sunday and expect the maximum participation.

Eventually the tournaments as they are now will be moved to achievements that players can complete on their own time. I believe this was mentioned in an Ask the Devs or some other Command Chair post, but I do not have the exact post handy.

It's good to see tournaments "faction vs faction" as long as we have to wait for CW.

Those are the challenges, not the tournaments.

So the tournaments are rigged hacked stacked and whatever these Tunisian's need to win I would not even consider what MWO is doing as a tournament. Posted Image

An 1 vs. 1 Tournament would be fine = no excuses.

Unfair tournaments...way too much free time? Even though I can and choose put little more time into gaming than you, there are still loads of people who are able and who choose to invest whole lot more time into playing MWO than I do, but I don't worry about it - it's their choice. The trick is to put things into right perspective, be happy about the choices you've made in life and not try to enforce others to live by your choices.
If you really feel, that it's so important for you to able to try to show all the people how good of a mechwarrior you are (if you've given the time), then maybe you should tell your wife and kids that daddy has more important things to do and by doing so, make that time to play more. To me, it doesn't sound worth it. Important things are out there, not here. This is just a game.

These tournaments do not show how good of a mechwarrior anybody is. The drops are not balanced in anyway and there isn't any organized play among the two teams. Team play changes the whole dynamic of this game and can not wait for the day when teams can challenge other teams, not random teams, specified teams within a league. That is where MechWarrior shines. Not in these tournaments where 1st place nets you $7.70 worth of MC.

Ok, so instead of working for 10 good matches, you want to to make it the next "x" matches where luck has more of a chance to influence things? I mean, either you tank your Elo in advance or risk a bad losing streak in that small sample set that makes your tournament "unfair" for those other honest people.
Anyway, none of these tournament ideas really appeal to me as the poster above me said, solo-play tournaments run counter to the main point of this game, teamwork.

That is just jealousy talking. So, you might want to think that over again as It tells very much of invidual skill level. And also see below.

I've got good news for you - You don't have to wait a second longer. There are that kind of leagues and many of those tournament top scorers are playing in teams that play regularly those scheduled 8vs8 league matches. Facts are good, mmmkay?

Now this is a really well founded argument against tournaments validity... Right?

Well only the 10 best games are for the leaderboard.

However - i have only 9 games on my Highlander and all of them was bad (WL 0.5 of and KD 0.13) so really really really bad and still with the forumla its ~ 600 points.
With Atlas on the other hand with a only a couple of good games its 1000 points.
Considering spend time its ~13 to 15 points per minute.

However: to get that high on the leather bords with 10 games only
means at least 4 kills per game, 1000 dmg per game and 3 assistst, win only, and surviving.

That means you can go for high risk mechs and tactics only. Loosing a game didn't have any influence, because its highly impossible that the defeat is part of the calculation.

You should really consider all games - of them the average - maybe than you will have a "fair" tournament.

It appears I struck a nerve. There is no jealousy here. I know what I can do in a mech. I did opt in in this particular tournament because I was curious on how it worked. I've mostly just read the forums regarding past tournaments and figured they are a waste of time. Which after testing this one out, I've found that they are a waste of my time. Not because of my level of "skill" but the way one has to play in a match in order to "win" the tournament is garbage. And the rewards, all $7.70 worth of MC for 1st place, are a joke.

Exactly. This is the point that many seem to miss. Unless you are skilled enough, no matter how hard you try, you just don't get ten games of this kind, even in three days.

In this, I'm not so much with you Karl. Which mechs or tactics are high risk? I for one played with setups that I use every day. I mostly ran with my SRM/MLas Stalker, but after about six hours of play I got bored out of my mind and switched to LRM/MLas and LRM/ERP/Mlas setups - you know, also just normal stuff for three hours or so and that was it. And tactics? Just normal, I played like I always play. I didn't ignore lights any more than I normally do (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. It depends on situation, mech, setup, etc.), I went for the kills just like always, like most people do in PUGs anyway. What I did differently was that I pushed myself harder, I was more concentrated and played more and with faster pace than normally. I can't vouch for others, but I think it's about the same with most of those guys who got over 2000pts.

Well, for average we already have profile->stats->base statistics. And this "fair" that many people keep calling for is an interesting concept. What is fair? I think it's fair that those who commit wholly, with skill, talent and determination, that they make it to the top. Is it not? There already is one great equalizer in effect - right, that's ELO. If there wouldn't be ELO, the points difference between players in tournaments would be much greater.

Well, they SHOULD do more challenges instead of tournaments where only 5 players per weight class/mech get anything worthwhile (usually OP/bugged/Ultra Alpha builds). I don't even bother with the tournaments and only opt in to see what "rank" (nothing below 38 so I won't get a price anyway) I can get by playing like I always do.

Haha, yes I can very well understand what a waste of time it was for you to opt in. Have fun out there and see you in battlefield.

They are fair. I am also a Dad, my son is 1 year 1 month old (Closed Beta baby). I just understand that I don't have the time requirements to participate so i do not. The kid is worth much more to me than some tournament for a video game. move on.
