Just as a refresher for those who think the forums are terrible... They weren't always this way. In CB people were polite and open to suggestions. People gave good feedback for PGI to peruse. Where it went wrong was PGI started getting cute and stopped listening to the community. Then they went OB waaaay too soon and now you have a broken game with a broken forum with a broken community heading towards a launch that seems like it will be nothing more than an advertising ploy. PGIGP went cycle on the suck.

You are remembering a different Closed Beta than the one I remember.

Actually, I think most people who aren't happy are here to try and make the game better. The ideas they have may even be worse than what PGI has done in this patch, but at least they're trying. Simply nodding in approval of whatever PGI does doesn't make the game any better.

You attack people by saying they're only not happy because they lost a game, then attack them for defending themselves by calling them 'scared' of what you say. Do you actually read what you write out?

Why does this upset you so much? I am just a white knight remember? :P

I have never simply nodded approval of everything PGI does. I make a terrible {Noble MechWarrior}/white knight. If I am counted in that group PGI has bigger troubles that weapon balance.

I do think MWO is turning into a great game. PGI has had some bumps along the way, and they need to iron out their PR in some areas... but they haven't made a hash of things, and they are in the position to make a MWO game that is really good (which no one else is)

It is what it is.

No he's not. From around the Founders inception time mid July to early August, the forums had a lot of good information and feedback and was a lot less toxic than they are today. Sure there were some people who were toxic back then, but not near as many as today.

It's the simple fact that there were so many good suggestions and so much feedback about the game that was completely ignored. Many of the predictions about systems that PGI produced and how the game was shaping up are simply still true even today. Like I said, I can't blame people for being sarcastic or cynical about the shape of the game or balance. It is what it is and PGI made their bed through their own work, they have to lay in it.

Being blind or ambivalent about terrible implementations and cumbersome and completely convoluted systems, terrible design decisions and gameplay balance, doesn't all of a sudden make them better systems or nullify the fact that the developers generally have no idea about either the state of their game or the balance of it. They can stare at metadata until their eye's bleed, It doesn't mean that they are qualified or capable of comprehending that data in any meaningful way. This is shown simply by the design decisions that they make and the terribad systems that they implement. Just because they are PGI and they paid a big lump sump to use the IP rights of a very old and almost cult franchise doesn't make them better developers or capable of doing the franchise or the IP justice.

So trying to play King Defender and passively dismiss valid claims with utter hypocritical nonsense and delusional statements that the developers even have the first clue about balance or proper gameplay design, or that the community is somehow at fault for the terrible shape that the game is in because obviously the toxicity of the forums shape the direction that development goes in, does nothing except make you look like a pompous hypocritical ***.

Face facts, the game was advertised to be Mechwarrior, You got World of Mechs. It's not even a good World of Mechs because the balance is terrible and the development company behind it really doesn't even have the first clue how to fix it. I'm sorry that it's blunt and that it's harsh, but facts are facts. At this point, I think most people are just fighting for the game to be a mediocre World of Mechs.

At this point you're not a White Knight, you're just an *** hat. An extremely dense and ignorant *** hat

Also, apparently you don't read your own posts or what you type enough. You do nod approval at everything PGI does. You flat out blow them enough I think everyone can smell the *** on your breath at this point.

You're right that PGI has bigger troubles than weapon balance and awful shills, but that doesn't mean we should encourage awful shills. Certainly not any more than existing unintuitive mechanics excuse additional unintuitive mechanics.

I refuse to partake in anymore of this stupidity. PGI, fix your damn game! This patch fixed nothing. PPCs everywhere. Still the same dumbass boring sniper game. Last night was fine because people weren't sniping. Tonight, they're back to the same old crap.

Soooooo I'm done, again, for two more weeks. I gave the game a try for the first time in a month expecting not much to have improved and... viola... not much has improved.

That's okay, I have a million other games to play and spend money on. Anything but this one until it is fixed.

There is nothing overpowered about sniping, learn to hide behind cover. The only thing that was broken was the fact that mechs could snipe with four, five or even six PPCs at a time and at least now, they will most likely overheat when shooting that many.

Most people complaining are here complaining because they can't cope with the fact that they lost for some reason. I don't have that problem, so I don't have to grasp at straws as to why the "game is bad"...

I'm pretty sure my unit and I haven't suffered the problem of losing very much, so why are we so incensed about PGI's handling of game balance?

I more than know how to snipe/play against it. I have a >8:1 KDR running a sniper build in PUGs and it just kept rising to the point I decided it was stupid.

The problem is... I don't WANT to play this way.

Mechwarrior 4 was sniping. I got sick of that game years ago. I don't want to play it again.

Well, unfortunately those weapons have been a part of Battletech and Mechwarrior for ages, I guess you will just have to wait for a Solaris 7 game or something.

It isn't the PPCs themselves that is the problem, is the the converging of all damage instantly on one point alpha problem. That isn't a part of Battletech. Not unless you have a Targeting Computer and even then it isn't flawless.

No, you didn't attack any one person your "general statement" just attacked everyone that disagrees with you, and now you insinuate with more passive aggressive nonsense that people just must be afraid. So I think at this point it is safe to say you are both a hypocrite and delusional.

I have often found that the people who level the most attacks in a conversation are the ones who are being hypocritical and delusional.

If you dislike the game so much, take a break... try reading the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying during your hiatus.

If they flat out remove aiming from the game you will see people leave in droves.

I don't want aiming removed. I want balance restored. That doesn't mean stupid crap like random aim generators. And I've made far too many posts previously on these forums detailing what they should do only to have them ignored.

There's much better stuff PGI could be doing that obtuse, nonsensical violations of the laws of thermodynamics.

The Heat Scaling is the best Thing in this Patch. Hopefully we won´t see that much PPC / ERPPC Boats that we saw in the last day´s. Good Work. :P

Tabletop does not always translate perfectly to realtime, if all shots were as completely random as in the board game, then why have anyone piloting a mech?

Although the numbers may decrease... those that are familiar with exposing weaknesses in the design will avoid those issues and will probably likely to still obliterate you as effectively as before.

The change to streaks makes them completely unviable for practical application to anyone who isn't just interested in shooting worthless body parts to boost their damage score at the end of the match. Really, why do I want a weapon that only has at most a 16% chance to hit the body part I want it to (and even then only that high if by chance I want it to hit the center torso, which is usually but not always the case). The only reason anyone will use streaks now is to pad their damage score at the end of the match by chipping away at armour on body parts they're not shooting at anyway.

Other than that all the changes are great except the JJ shake didn't really need to be changed but it's not a life changing event for me one way or another.

As a whole, the game's better than it was prior to tuesday. I've been waiting for this change and might come back to the game now.

You don't understand what it does.

The most popular and effective PPC builds are 2PPC+2ERPPC, 3ER/PPC+Gauss or 2ERPPC +Gauss. The current system does nothing to those builds. Any builds with more PPC's are rarely seen and basically suck. On the 30th they will confuse the PPC's and ER's. Which will severely hinder the 2+2 build and inconvenience the 3+Gauss builds. 2+Gauss remains unaffected.

Is that the effect you wanted to see?

I'm cool with that. I love my dual-peep/gauss Phract 3D, and I don't want to see the ranged game die.
I want jump-sniping not only to be possible, but - IF DONE CORRECTLY - to be viable, and in it's own way to be as viable as any other strat (within the bounds of the map, enemy comp, etc..)

I want to see ranged mechs if piloted well having enough oomph to be able to hold off a mad-rush (and at range were talking Gauss or Peeps), what I don't want is the simple default position that we've had for months that no Assault other than a 4x peep stalker is worth taking, that anyone other than the snipers have a chance.

A Stalker firing PPCs in a 2/2 pattern is still strong, and like many things if taken to an extreme seems unbalanced (facing a bunch of LRM boats in an uncoordinated PUG often seems unbalanced), but it should be strong.

So pretty much yes, this is the effect I was hoping to see - I still think it's an ugly, inelegant method of achieving the objective, but the result is ~ more or less ~ what I was hoping for.
