They're probably just testing out new SRMs and are too ignorant to bypass the heat scale system. We'll have to wait at least a day before deciding if brawling is viable yet or not.

^ What he said. The patch did nothing to address the superiority of PPC boating.

Seems to be a 50-50 split at the moment between SRM-6 brawlers and the usual PPC/GR fest. Haven't decided yet myself whether brawling is in fact viable. Despite the massive SRM buff I'm tending to think not.

I can say that in my srm stalker or srm d-dc i could kill any ppc boat before this srm patch. Now i can kill 2-3 of them at a time lol. I am just happy that my stalker is strong again, before i had to be insanely careful when i saw two mechs. Now i have to be careful but still have a good chance of winning the brawl.

EDIT: Brawling was viable pre-patch you just had to walk behind cover on approach. But now you can stick to cover and dominate them. I will admit that the sniper meta is dumb as **** but its because of people like you. You wait and see what weapon is strongest and then boat it. Instead of choosing a way you want to play and having fun. I am competitive but if you are good you can still win with bad weapons.

From my experience today people tend to use a lot more lrms then usual.

So since today we have three main threats to balance:

- Still PPCs/Gauss builds
- LRM boats (especialy with PPCs)
- 2xAC20

Well this might be personal taste, but from my experience range still dominates brawlers. The few SRM builds I have see, where shot into pices or didn't acutally hurt my jenner - or most of the other mechs.

However, the PPC issu still isn't resolved and dual AC20 or full LRM boats are still subject to balance in my opinion.

Another way would be to boost every mechs run speed - not the turning rate, so that meele fights actualy have a chance of happening.

Yeah, a balance change approved by the forum actually worked. And the one by PGI fell flat on it's arse and introduced another needless layer of complexity to the game.

Well fancy that.

Brawlers are still underpowered though, they're only getting in range at because somehow hit registration got even more fooked up by this patch.

Before patch:
PPC (+Gauss) boats, dominant breed.
LRM boats, regularly.
AC40 Jaeger bombs as the only viable brawler. Rare animal.

After patch:
PPC (+Gauss) boats, regularly.
LRM boats, regularly.
Whole variety of brawlers, including AC40, which now requires more skill. Regularly.

I call it an improvement.

As long as SRMs are fairly useful now I think it's guaranteed there will be an increase in brawlers. Long range weapon (nearly)-alphas are still an issue up close, but it's nice to have something else to use for a change.

I swear hit registration improved a little... and yet, I dunno... too much weirdness and uncertainty.

I haven't seen a single PPC boat since the patch, nor any AC40 builds. I see the return of Splatcats and all Stalkers I've come up against are packing variable loadouts between LRMs, SRMs, and Streaks along with lasers. I have seen a substantial increase in brawling over sniping.

Verdict: Thus far success, will see how this plays out.

The only people annoyed by this patch are those which one click wonder builds don't work as they did before.

They will keep arguing that nothing has changed, yet I see they all modified their builds for less alpha more sustained DPS due to heat scale. Even if it's just a drop from 40 to 35 dmg it's a start and I'll take it.

Brawling meds coming back to the field is just another proof of patch success. Same as moaning about seismic, twin AC/20s and SSRMs.

So kudos to PGI for finally delivering a patch full of win.

I wouldn't call it a complete win. A nice addition but personally it would have been much more preferable had they figured out how to implement this in a more simple fashion. I have in the past championed the heat scale for it's comparative simplicity compared to other ideas, which are frankly horrible. But the heat scale, time will tell if it works, is another layer that needs management. It's not a terribly bad layer but I'd have preferred it to be a more core adjustment.

Plus this thing is another addition that needs showing on a UI else players will be scratching their heads on release.

No, the people complaining are the ones that aren't playing at the bottom of the barrel and have seen the total effect is....nothing - bar a lot more complexity added with no rhyme or reason
45 alpha the face still reigns.

SRM being useful again is nothing? I disagree.
4mans are brawling again, and, give it some time, 8mans soon will brawl too.
My whole corp welcomed the much needed SRM buff.

I regret to inform you, that the high pinpoint alpha meta is alive and well.

The difference however is those that sucked at that meta (usually newbies, who haven't quite grasped patience and/or discipline), are the first to be burned by it.

I can confirm that the Centurions have been out in force tonight. And I'm a happy guy.
