Hey guys, new to MWO, former avid MW2/3 player, rusty as all hell though, and I have some questions about the Raven 3L.

So, favorite mech, my preferred light, and, lately, I'm seeing some pretty amazing builds.
However, what I'm not understanding, is how people GOT those builds.

Example, one build I saw online has the following stats I'm pasting:

Mech Type: Raven
Mech Variant: RVN-3L

Systems and Armour:
Endo-Steel Frame
Ferro-Fibrous Armor
Double Heat Sinks

(The Endo-steel and Ferro-Fibrous take up a total of 28 slots)

Head 18/18
Center Torso 22/44 – XL Engine 295
Center Torso Rear 22/44
Right Torso 22/32- Stream SRM2, ]Medium Laser (x1)
Right Torso Rear 10/32
Left Torso 22/32 -ECM, BAP Streak SRM ammo (x2)
Left Torso Rear 10/32
Right Arm 24/24 – Medium Laser (x2)
Left Arm 24/24 – Streak SRM2
Right Leg 32/32 –
Left Leg 32/32 –

Specifications:

Speed: 136.5 kph (XL 295 Engine) (150.2 kph with speed tweak)
Firepower: 25
Heat Sinks: 10
Heat Efficiency - 1.16
Armor 238

Mine is
Speed 136.5
35 tons
Firepower 21
Heat Efficiency is 1.12
Armor is 161
Structure is Endo Steel
3 ML's
2 SRM2's
Guardian ECM
Case
SRM Ammo

In short, not sure it comes close to that. So I'm wondering... (and that's just ONE example of uber Ravens)

How the hell do I get my Raven to this level of badassery? Many other builds that end up with better armor and damage numbers than mine, yet I just have no idea how. Maybe I'm just reading them wrong?

Do you have an Xl engine or Standard? That is basically the same build I use, except I throw tag on instead of the third mlaser.

I use a very similar one. I decided to drop the BAP, Case, and 3 Med Lasers, and put on tag and 2 Med Pulse Lasers.

i'd rather go bounce around in my spider than a 3L anyday. :P but the 3L is a nasty little booger. I think I just run mine with an xl295, 3ML and 2SSRM, and of course the ecm. really don't remember cuz I truly prefer the ecm spider. but the 3L is a nice mech cuz it can have 4 modules when done. can't remember if I was able to fit a bap in it or not, I think so. but after that I wasn't able to put in any DHSs. kinda easy to build really :D just takes some cbills getting there.

no need for a BAP. It's pretty useless with ECM, and lose the case. With XLs it's just wasted tonnage. I'm also running mine with a TAG and 2 mlas, rather than the usual 3mals. Just be very careful not to shut down due to overheating.

I think you have forgotten FF armor, which will free up some weight so you can add more armor.

Also with streaks I run with 2 tons of ammo. That build you posted, I think, runs too hot. No need for a BAP with ECM. Instead of BAP, lower the armor by 1/2 ton and add two DHS if you can.

HASTUR,

I run a 3L quite often and I don't find the BAP all that necessary. Instead I run 2x SSRM2, 2X MLAS, 1 TAG, ECM. I don't use CASE to save half a ton (use on armor), and tend to put my ammo in my legs or CT. For modules I run Seismic and Adv. Sensor Range.

Something like this:

This makes my Raven well rounded as both a scout, and a harassment / light killer. You just need to pick your battles. Fighting certain medium mechs can result in a bad time. I find harassing assaults and chasing down other light mechs to be more productive.

Know when to fight and when to run. With ECM and 150kph you can usually get back to your buddies easily.

My 3L is mastered, so I have those modules plus Cap Accelerator and Target Decay. Knowing when to run is a HUGE deal, especially now that BAP cancels ECM when within 150m. You will live longer if you assume that any enemy that has streaks also has a BAP.

I love my 3L. I do miss the mobility with not having JJs now with the new terrain rules, but its still a solid mech. So first my current build.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e435b012dace219

On top of this I use the Adv. Sensors, Tremor Sensors, 360 Targeting and Cap accelerator for mods.

First thing most people notice is either the smaller engine or the normal armor. Those are just personal choices. The 260 works well for me and I'm still fast enough to do what I need to do. As for the Normal armor, I just see the point of pulling off that 1 extra heatsink just to save .8 that I can't do much with. When I pick up a second XL280, then maybe I'll switch up to this build
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8956e60a809f4a3
but until then, the XL260 is serving me well enough.

What do you think about the following build for 3L?

-1 PPC or ERPPC
-2 Flamer
-1 NARC
-~260 XL Enginge (maximum what you can have)

Tactic: Get behind, heat him, shoot him and get narced him just for fun.
